Just might help...anxeity, restless leg, insomnia...

I am trying to support my husband who is on month 3 coming off Benzos.  Anxiety, restless legs and insomnia are awful.  Doing some reading I found a possible support in a weighted blanket.  I brought one home from school and my husband has used it on his legs while watching TV or reading.  He says it is soothing. It's just another tool that we are trying.    You can purchase them on Amazon or also on educational websites working with autism.  Hope someone can benefit...

I've been making these for autistic children and am testing the weight on adults who are in w/d and/or have insomnia.  I made one for myself and still use it sometimes.  There are times when I can fall asleep very quickly and deeply under it.  I believe it has something to do with encouraging regular breathing, which works well for anxiety.

Here's something I copied for my notes...I don't know what the source was:

Recent studies have shown that deep pressure touch, the type of proprioceptive input generated

from a weighted blanket,  releases serotonin in the brain. This is a neurotransmitter that creates a

feeling of calm within our nervous system.

Depression, Anxiety, Aggression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress

Disorder (PTSD) and Bipolar Disorder all have a common link: low serotonin levels.

The deep pressure -- proprioceptive input --  generated from the weighted blanket signals the brain

to release serotonin, which in turn naturally calms and relaxes the body, promoting sleep and

stress relief.  This effect has already had tremendous success helping to calm children and adults

with sensory integration disorder, autism, Rett Syndrome, Asperger's Syndrome,  ADHD, PTSD

and Restless Leg Syndrome.

Thanks for the quote Challis.  I am going to share it with my husband.  We have been told to try essential oils, such as lavender so we may.  There have been a few more windows the past few days, but a lot of hopelessness to go with it.  Funny how sleep gets a little better and then the emotional picks up.

Hope all is well with you.  Thanks again!
