hydrocortisone, and gabapentin?

I don't recall ever seeing anybody having a problem with topical hydrocortisone.

I took gabapentin (usually 300 mg at bedtime), and I feel that it helped me (to sleep better if nothing else).  Some people have had trouble with it.

thanks badsocref for your reply, the gabapentin is topical too not sure if that makes a difference in how strong or weak it is in the system. My doctor ordered this topical medicine for pain with a few different active ingredients, and I wasn't sure if it would have any negative effects on my w/d.

I would stay away from hydrocortisone, oral or cream... but that's just my opinion. I'm not sure how much of a difference there is between oral and cream, but I know that steroids and benzos are cross-tolerant and don't go together well at all... also, it's very easy to get addicted to HC... and weaning off can be a horror... I've tried. Do what you have to do, but I'd steer the hell away.

I have to use topical hydrocortisone cream for psoriasis on the bottom of my right foot.  I haven't noticed any bad effects from it and don't see any other options as the condition is fairly severe.  Do you know of any alternatives dpier?

If it's working for you, may as go ahead and stay with it. To be honest, I don't know how much of a difference there is between oral HC and topical, so I can't say for sure.

I'd just make sure you research the heck out of it and know what to expect when/if you do come off.

But if you haven't noticed any ill effects,

No ill effects but I use a fairly strong RX cream and it isn't getting rid of the condition, but if I stop using it, it's worse.  I've read that once you start using this stuff that will happen, but I don't know what else to do.  Ugh.

I am really concerned about any kind of steroid, especially because I was given predisone when I was w/d last year and I think it really screwed me up for a while, it certainly was a nightmare of an anxiety experience. I wonder if topical hydrocortisone goes into your system very much or if it just treats the area.

Does gabapentin affect gaba?

Does gabapentin affect gaba?

Yes, but differently than benzos.  Benzos attach directly to the GABAA receptor and 'encourage' GABA (the natural neurotransmitter) to bind.  Gabapentin is more involved in GABA turnover, and results in more 'natural' GABA being available to bind to GABAA.  Gabapentin doesn't bind to the receptor.  So in a sense, your GABAA receptors are behaving more like normal, but they're seeing more GABA than they would normally see.

I'm going to see if I can get my doctor to rewrite the prescription for just the other things that were in the topical pain cream, I think the ibuprofen in it might help, cause nsaid's hurt my stomach. There also is lidocane in it, has anyone had any adverse effects from lidocane? I hate having to bother my doctor and get him to change it, they always make you feel stupid for bothering them.
