Hello DisneyGal   Welcome to BenzoBuddies!.

How long has hubby been taking these drugs?  Benzodiazepines should be used short term, it only takes a few weeks for the body to become dependent on them.  You will find a lot of information here, we have a wonderful community of caring members.

Our members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, and will share their experiences with you, I will leave you some links you might find useful:

You may want to familiarize yourself with the Ashton Manual. It is a great resource for information about these medications “Professor Ashtons Manual” is an authoritative resource on benzodiazepines

For tapering advice General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms post here: Withdrawal Support

If you have any questions let us know.

He has been on them for about 6 months now, They are working and he has not had issues with needing to go up except once and that was a month in. I know he will have to taper off if the Dr. wants him on a new pill for his legs. He was diagnosed after sleep studies and a few other tests.

Hi DisneyGal and welcome.

I was put on a benzo for RLS, too.  I now take approved RLS meds... I've taken Requip and carbodopa/levodopa which are both non-addictive.  They're prescribed in higher doses for Parkinson's patients and lower doses for RLS.  I have a fairly severe RLS symptoms and both of these have worked well for me.

If your husband does taper the Klonopin, he may find himself with a really amped up RLS issue.  I did, and had to bump my RLS dose up for a few months until my central nervous system settled down again.

Take care,

Challis  :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Thank you for the advise. I swear my husband must be made of steel because he quit cold turkey the klonopin and had no serious reactions.  He is now on requip and feels even better than when he was on klonopin.

Hello DisneyGal,

Welcome to the forum from me too and thank you for the update  :)

That's great news that hubby is klonopin free and doing well, I hope this continues for him. Not everybody has a difficult time withdrawing from benzos, some people have no trouble at all, it sounds like your husband is one of the lucky ones. I wish you both well.

Debbie
