Hi everyone, hoping someone can reply before my noon appointment tomorrow. He is actually a psychiatrist with good reviews.  I'm desperate to find someone who will help me wean, using the Aston Manuel. Any suggestions with how I should approach the situation?

Hi Lilly, what I did was to send to him by e-mail my taper plan before seeing him and after making my appointment when I told him I wanted to taper Rivotril. As this doctor has good references I let him know all the good I heard about him as soon as The appointment started. Told him about the mean doctor that puts me on Rivotril for years, but no his name...just in case they were friends.

As your appointment is tomorrow, you maybe can print out the schedule plan from the Ashton Manual you want to follow. Never mention the word "addict", just that you are feeling bad due to this drug.

I hope everything goes perfect for you tomorrow! :)

Hi Lily4304,

New doc?

I suggest:

Bring a note pad and pen, for starters.

Have an agenda.

Make a list of all drugs you're on, one for him, one for you.

Tell the doc why you chose him specifically. (Ego stroke)

Be clear about wanting to taper off of whatever drug you're on.

Describe symptoms clearly.

Ask for his help in tapering according to a plan that will minimize withdrawal symptoms.

Print out a copy of Ashton manual for him, if possible.

Know how much Rx you need for the foreseeable future.

Find out his availability for appts, contact by phone, email, text.

Tell him you have a support system to help you stay on track.

Hope all goes well at the doctor's.

Bennie
