Wanting off of Klonopin

[lo...]

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been on Klonopin for 15 years. Wanting a reasonable suggestion for a taper. I currently take .05 twice daily and 2mgs at bed. I am hoping to learn a lot and be successful in my journey to freedom from this drug.

Hi, lovemy3girls.

Welcome to benzobuddies!  :)

I'm glad you wish to come off of Klonopin. 15 years is a long time, however, I was on various benzos for close to 30 years and was able to successfully come off in June. My memory is clearer and I'm slowly feeling better. With a slow taper, I know you'll be successful, too.

A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  It’s great for learning about these meds and for taper plans. Ashton recommends reducing between 5 - 10% every 10/14 days.

You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards.

In addition to the Ashton Manual, here are some other resources:

For tapering advice, post here: General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms you may have, post here: Withdrawal Support

Please add a signature (history of medication/doses etc). It will help members give you relevant advice. This link will show you how to Create a signature

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello lovemy3girls,

Welcome to the forum from me too  :)

Congratulations on the decision to begin tapering, you'll be given plenty of support and tapering assistance here.

A slow careful taper is the way to go after long term benzo use, within the guidelines that Mind has given you, with cuts of no more than 10% of the current dosage every 10 to 14 days according to how you are feeling. Tapering slowly is advised to ensure that any withdrawal effects you may have will be kept to a minimum. There is a withdrawal schedule for Klonopin with diazepam substitution within The Ashton Manal, chapter 2, to give you an idea of taper rate but it isn't essential to crossover to diazepam for tapering purposes, many members here have successfully tapered directly from the klonopin.

Like Mind, I was also taking my benzo long term and I'm also benzo free now after a slow taper so I hope this helps to encorage you.

I'm glad you found us and I wish youu success with the taper.

Debbie

Thank you both, very much. Your kind and warm welcoming words have given me hope!  :) I have attempted two tapers. 10% a month was too fast for me :/ I know this journey isn't an easy one, but with having to care for my kids and work, I need a slow plan. Where might I find a slow taper plan from 3 mgs of Clonazepam? Thank you once again!

Hi, lovemy3girls.

You may wish to read and post on the General Taper Plans forum and get some advice.

Also, there's a support group for members coming off of Klonopin (Clonazepam): The Klonopin Klub.
