The WHO has a section on its website that briefly outlines how to safely withdraw from certain types of substances, including benzodiazepines. The evidence provided refers to studies that are quite dated, but at least there's a strong recommendation of a slow taper with a long-acting benzodiazepine.

 

What's interesting to me is that they're looking for updated "systematic reviews" and controlled studies to support their recommendations, but I doubt there's much study going on. I wish there were.
