Brain Training

Does anyone use Lumosity? I just remembered this today, seems I signed up a long time ago and then forgot about it.

Still having a really hard time staying focused on anything and hoping this might help.  There is really nothing about the way I have done things my entire life that seems to be working or flowing, including prioritizing to get literally anything done.....

Hi there,

Yes, I use Lumosity and it's helped a lot with my memory and cognition skills. I first joined on the recommendation of another member liljoe. My scores were very low at first but they're much better now. I think any brain training game is helpful, crosswords, scrabble, anything to keep your brain stimulated.

I hope this helps,

Debbie

Thank you so much Deborah. I am going to try to make it a priority, it's good to hear from someone that it's helping. Anything to get that muscle exercised.  I'll keep you posted. Thanks again, Tracy

Hi who-am-i

I use the Lumosity regularly too. I have found them to be extremely helpful in my recovery. I wish I had known about these games sooner.

Play the "attention" games to help with your "focus" deficit. The "train" game is my favorite. I can get 50 trains into 50 stations in 2 minutes now. This feat was impossible for me 1 year ago.

Also, I found that my anxiety levels increased when I played these games, so I practiced my deep breathing while playing & my anxiety is now pretty much non existent.

My memory & my math skills have also improved. Other aspects of cognitive functioning has improved as I have worked on improving skills with these games. So all in all, these games have helped me tremendously.

I hope they work just as well for you too.  :smitten:

Thank you Bella. It's good to hear some positive feedback, and the heads up. I just need to get my focus back. Like with this response, I'm really struggling to write and express myself as I normally would have. Anyway, thank you again and I wish you continued improvement.

Hi Bella,

I just signed up for Lumoisty. I didn't realize that there is a cost, but of course anything that's going to help is worth it, plus I really wanted to see where I stand in brain function. The really sad thing it, I scored less than one percentile of all lumoisty members. Millions of users. One percentile. I don't even know how to react to that. Now I see, in black and white, how damaged my brain really is and I feel pretty overwhelmed by it right now.....just really, really, overwhelmed.....

My memory & my math skills have also improved. Other aspects of cognitive functioning has improved as I have worked on improving skills with these games. So all in all, these games have helped me tremendously.

Hi who-am-i

Try not to be overwhelmed & discouraged. You should find vast improvement in cog functions if you play these games on a regular basis. Our brains are wired for healing. The brain is the slowest part of the body to heal, so it will take time for 100% recovery, just like everything else in BZ withdrawal process.

I played the brain games for many hours a day. (Improvement in your scores & LPI will validate this) Not only a good distraction, but also boosted my mood and my sense of wellness as I gained cog functions on a DAILY basis. You will see improvement quickly the more you play! Keep at it!

Wishing you wellness

Thank you Bella. I really, really needed that. Today was the first day with signing up and all, and I have signed up to practiced every day. I just re-read what you had written, it seems I did not read the whole thing (I am doing this alot) and see that you like the train game, me too:) Looking forward to getting some positive reinforcement in the form of increasing scores. Bless you.

(PS. I find that the way this "state" leaves you is that I have become way, way too self focused. It's all I can think about and it's not me! I really am not me in every sense of the word. Ach, thank you for listening. Thank you for the encouragement. I need a little faith, and that part of my brain is also gone. Or dormant I hope....)

OK, I'll keep you posted about the scores:)

Unfortunately, I can relate to the "self focus" part. I think this happens because we are so shocked that we feel this debilitated from a "harmless"  drug prescribed from a professional we trusted  for so long. Who second guesses their doctor?  :tickedoff:

Thank you again, I can't even tell you how your words have helped. Just having a little validation that the whole self-focused thing is not just me, helps too.

Will keep you posted on my faith, as I am hoping that is indeed dormant.

Thank you again. Hope you are having the best day you can,

Tracy

(now OCD playing the train game, but at least it's mental exercise:):)

Thank you!  Guess what I'm doing right now.....OCD, checking out all of the games! OK, now I have some hope, thank you for sharing your scores:) Let's see, the trains, I don't think I have gotten past level 6. Off to try the Penguin game......

OMG, my scores were kind of going up until the Penguin game!!!!!!!! I've played I don't know how many and still can't orient the direction after it spins!!!!!

The penguin game is probably the hardest! 2 funny! It took me months of playing it to get oriented, then it becomes automatic & you won't even notice it board switching :D

Just keep playing what ever you feel comfortable with. You will eventually get to a point where you see marked improvements in your life. Over time, as your scores & LPI continue to rise, you will then begin to notice subtle changes in the real word too, pay attention & always remember how bad it was, then when you hit a wall & experience a wave you will tell yourself "it could be worse"

We do eventually heal. The waiting seems to worst. Try to live in the moment and you will do well  ;)

Hello Bella,

Yes, I'm really really bad at the Penguin Pursuit, and of course have been playing it this morning! As I opened it up this morning, I kept thinking about your comment that an OCD thing with brain training could be a good thing:)

Thank you for the reminder to live in the moment.  It occurred to me this morning for all the obsessing I do about what I can't do, there are things I CAN do and it certainly is better to focus on that, and do what I can. Anyway, thank you again for the encouragement, I think it's going to be a good tool for exercising the gray matter, and you are proof positive that it's a good, sort of tangible way to see some improvement.  Not only that, it is fun:)

Btw, my score increased ever so slightly this morning:)

Have the best day you can,

Tracy

Hi Tracy

You should have seen how sucky I was when I first started :-[ I am glad to hear your score has increased. This will continue to improve the more you play. You can do anything you put your mind too. This positive attitude will help you in your journey immensely.

My mom always told me "you get out exactly what you put in" this has turned out to be true in so many aspects of my life!

Keep at it Tracy! Share as you progress. This will help to inspire others who struggle with cognitive functions  :)

I like to play online mahjong. There are some out there that don't require a download or signing up for anything. They're totally free.

Two good ones are: Majong at Freegames.WS and Master Quans Mahjong.

The first one has no hints or undo, and is so challenging that it's one of the best I've seen.

The second one is timed, but also with no hints. It does give the option of rearranging the tiles if you get stuck, but still is quite the test of ones abilities.

Just thought I "throw" this idea out there as these games require a strategic and focused mind and I think can be very good "brain training."

Hi Bella,

I will keep you posted as I progress. Today I got hooked on the River game, I decided I might just want to get better at some of the other games before tackling the Penguins:) Will keep you posted. One thing I really like is watching to those scores go up (umm, yes, I'm now in the 7.5 percentile for my age group. At least it's not 1% anymore!!! Yay!)

You know, it's funny how we just keep learning that mom was right, isn't it? How blessed we are to be able to say that.

Intend to be off,

Thank you for the tip. I have never played Majong, but I will check it out! And free is always good:)

Ok everyone, keep workin' that gray matter. The body has an amazing ability to heal itself.

Hi Tracy!

I am Sooo glad to see you progressing how cool this is  ;) You will be surprised at how quickly your percentile rises. It really does. Keep at it girl!

Hi intend!

Mahjong relaxes me when I get wound up. You are right, it does require a a strategic and focused mind. I have only played the windows version. This one from Freegames.WS  has better graphics and is a bit more challenging it seems. Thanks for the links!
