No sleep

Recommended Posts

Hi:

This is not an exact science.  I am all over the place with medication.  Finished a taper of klonopin and temazepam in July and October respectively.  Was in the hospital twice this past fall and now my meds are all over the place.  They are like taking placebos and needless to say sleep is horrific.  I doze but don't get restorative sleep at all.  I have been on almost all of the psych meds they have and none of them work for me. Lack of the ability to sleep is my most pressing issue since this is a big trigger.  The only correlation seems to be that the more meds I take, the worse my sleep problems become. Finances are prohibiting me from taking anything for sleep so I don't know.  I am in despair and insomnia can trigger suicidal thoughts in me.  I desperately want to avoid another trip to the ER since they will just bill me and I already have more bills than I can pay. Any support would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry I don't have a solution to your sleeplessness, but certainly can empathize. I've also been getting almost no real sleep, just sort of an in-between state where I'm semi-aware of still being awake, yet sometimes either hallucinating or having dreams. I've come to the conclusion (as many others have) that time is the one thing that will eventually allow normal sleep to return. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from trying other things out of desperation (acupuncture, CES, EFT, yoga nidra, herbal teas, OTC, trazodone, Remeron...), if only to make me feel like I'm doing everything humanly possible to solve the problem.

Meanwhile, I find that if I can lie in bed in a restful, meditative state, instead of tossing and turning and getting all agitated, I can get through the next day more easily.

There was a time when antipsychotics used to make me sleep for 16 hours a day but that was over a decade ago.  The only thing that worked for me to sleep was a combination of Depakote ER and Klonopin but now I'm stuck like you where I want to get off but the insomnia is such a nightmare.  I have experienced the endless cycle of going to the ER too.  I hope you can succeed in getting off of the meds if that is your goal.
