I'm crazy to take these drugs.

Right now, I'm on 2 mg klonopin/day.  Just tapered to 1.75.

I started on .75 in 1999.  Just kept going up...

I'm looking to go off the stuff completely, but I'm 55.

Hi bluedemon  Welcome to Benzobuddies

Good for you wanting off these drugs, we have had plenty of members here in their 50s and 60s and 70s some tapering and others successfully tapered, 55 is not old.  Are you familiar with the  Ashton Manual , it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal/tapering.  Here is a link to the manual: Ashton Manual

A slow taper can help minimize withdrawal effects.  It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for  your own comfort.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.  Feel free to ask questions so that members can respond

Here are some helpful links:

General Taper Plans

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard

Welcome,

I'm 53 and that won't stop me from tapering off Klonopin.

Get a doc check up if you have other health issues, or you need reassurance if uncomfortable symptoms arise.

2.5 to 1.75 is a 12.5% cut. You may or may not feel the effects of that taper amount until days or weeks later. It can catch up with you since Klonopin is long acting. Take it slow. You cannot go down as easily as it is to go up. Devise a plan and be ready to adjust it based on what is manageable. Getting off quick is the booby prize. There are rare exceptions. I wouldn't bank on it though.

I think if members were forced to post in an under- or over-50 age bracket thread, there'd be a 50/50 split. Just my take. Dependency is not age discriminatory.
