My son experienced a recent psychotic event (not related to Benzo) very possibly related to substance abuse... and was presribed seroquel.  I want to safety taper this medication and was looking for feedback on the book/program "The Road Back".

Thanks -

Hi Myhouse :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am so happy you found us. I don't know anything about the book, but perhaps other members here do.

We have a few members here who have tapered or are tapering from Serequel. What dose is your son on and how long has he been on them?

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where your son is in the process so they can better support you/him.

Again Welcome!  :smitten:

Hi, Myhouse. I'm currently on a Seroquel taper and we have other members who are on this medication, too.

For help with Seroquel (or any other medications besides benzos), please post here:Other Medications.

I hope your son is doing better soon.  :)

My son (19) was put on seroquel when he was admitted to hospital after his manic event (his first)... which was 6 weeks ago. He max'ed out at 800 mg for a week around Oct 18 and since discharge is now  tapered down to 175mg.  He's doing OK, and sleeping at night... but speaks very little (short answers), and is often not "not in the moment" with periods of smiles and laughter to himself... I'm not sure if this is the seroquel's doing, the trauma of being in a mental hospital (17 days) or sliding into illness (B-P, schiz, etc...)???
