myoclonic jerks while awake?

[mo...]

Recommended Posts

Anyone have their arm, leg, or head sort of jerk for no reason while awake?  Sometimes I get it when just at rest, other times when I am slightly moving my arm, it'll turn into more of a flail.

I also get internal tremors at night, especially when I first lie down to sleep, but this is new.

I am having a migraine today, so it could be part of that...but I've really noticed it this past week.  I've been off of Clonazepam for about 2 weeks now.

Thanks,

Thank you, Motherdearest4,

I am trying to kind of figure out what is what.  In addition to anxiety and benzo withdrawal, I also have migraines to factor in.

I think I am starting to see a clearer pattern though.  I think 1/2 of my symptoms are benzo-related.  But....right now I seem to be averaging a migraine every 2 weeks.  I think that is amping up panic-ish type attacks and my overall anxiety (which wasn't a problem about a year ago).

Freaks me out a little as I just had that depersonalization episode (which may have been just a strange migraine aura)...but I don't like having these head/limb jerks right now...it puts epilepsy/seizures into the back of my head.  I know that with my relatively slow taper, I shouldn't have to worry about a benzo-related seizure.  But, migraines throw a strange wrench into everything...

Thanks again,

Anyone else?

I've had it quite badly for several months. I am 4 1/2 months out now. I have found incresing the amount of magnesium and clacium in natural foods helps me along with exercise. It's awful, been my worst symptom and I hope it improves!

I would get them while awake on occasion, but they were really bad when falling asleep. My spouse said she couldn't even sleep in the same bed as it would give her motion sickness. I would be blissfully unaware that I was even doing this. The myoclonic jerks stopped completely for me about two months after my last dose. The ones while awake persisted far longer than the ones that would happen while sleeping.

It's kind of hard to say when these will go away, because most of the time, we're not even aware of myoclonic jerks when sleeping or falling asleep. That said, it's still normal; even babies have them.  It's funny to see a baby twitch in her sleep, waking herself up, and being confused.

Yes - I had these while awake and random.  They have since disappeared, but I do get them sometimes when I am meditating.  I now embrace them in meditation because a lovely, relaxed feeling immediately follows.  I was wondering if perhaps I didn't recognize this "relaxation" part when it was happening throughout my initial c/t as I was consumed with fear and wondering what was happening.  I am now 7 months cold turkey and other than during meditation I don't get them anymore.

+1 on magnesium and calcium. I have myoclonic epilepsy and magnesium and calcium calm the jerks considerably. They became much worse post wd, and are mostly gone now since I increased supplementation. It works.

lindsaylouwho,

What kind of magnesium do you take?  I have the GNC super magnesium....I take 400 mg daily.  I believe it is a mix of 3 different ones....citrate being one of those (not oxide).

I am trying it more for migraines, but if it helps withdrawal too, all the better...

I've been on it about a month now.

I still get a lot of muscle fasciculation throughout the day as well.

I can't find many people with this problem, which means I can't find many people who have recovered from it.

Anybody have any good news about this?  Mine are severe, all day, SO many times a day, and I am creeping up on six months off.

I'm looking for worst case scenarios who have recovered, not people who who only had them for a couple of weeks and recovered...

I also take the Magnesium with Potassium supplement.  It does seem to help with the falling asleep ones and the occasional daytime ones. And drinking lots of water as well!

Best of luck!!!

Is there any truth to what people say about men recovering better than women?  I seem to read that over and over, and it's pretty devastating, since I'm a woman and in my late 30s.

WiggleIt--Are you on any meds AT ALL of any kind? Please answer me via PM--I'm not very good about checking here. If you are jerking all day there are some things that could be at play here--often medication related but possibly other things you may want to look into. I did that for many many months before I had my problem diagnosed.
