For those of you with sever head pain and jaw pain or pain anywhere!!! After all else fails and it's been days with the most excruciating pain would you consider taking a pain pill just to see if you could get a few hrs of relief? I have some hydrocodone and I am in so much pain right now, the worst it's been!, and I am so tempted to take one dose just to see if the pressure would break for a bit. Maybe it's stupid bc it's muscular and it's bc of the wd of Xanax so maybe there really isn't anything to be done but suffer. I feel like I can't take this anymore! The pain is unbearable! The muscle spasms in my jaw are so bad I am tightened up like a ball! I am so anti drug but I am getting desperate  :'(

If I were to give in and take something, it would be Advil for it's anti inflammatory properties. I don't care much for the Tylenol but that's just me. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry about your pain, Grinch.  My pain is all mental so I don't have too much experience with physical pain.  I would probably try something like Ruger suggested before the hydrocondone but what do I know?  Just wishing you some relief soon.  Praying.

Aw, Grinch, Im sorry youre having this pain. I agree with Ruger, taking ibuprofen is probably safer and better. Opiates work on similar parts of the brain as benzos, I think. I found that in withdrawal, they just did not help me for serious pain. But for some reason, Advil did.

But I don't blame you for thinking about taking the hydrocodone. Living with serious pain is simply awful.

Ok. I ll suffer. I don't want to mess with my taper. I ve been taking ibuprofen already for days, way more mgs than I should, so that's been tried. It doesn't help. Things I ve also tried..

Heat

Ice

Tens unit

Hand held messager

Epsom salt soak

Meditation

Distraction

I guess it's just my fate to suffer in this way at this point. Makes me just want to cold turkey the rest and get it over with if it's going to be this bad. But that prob isn't the best solution either.

Feeling very  :'( I thought things would be better somewhat by now. Not worse.

Grinch, I hate hearing you are suffering so much. It stinks, it really stinks, that someone as nice as you has to go through this.

Pain is pain, no matter what the cause. And it sounds like you've tried just about everything to combat it, and nothing is working.

For me, I would have been afraid that if I took even one hydrocodone and it actually helped...... I might have continued to take it. I realize I am an addictive sort of personality. Only you know how you are, only you know if you have those tendencies.

Please hang in there. We need you!!!!

I'm weaker than you, G.  I would probably take the pain meds for some attempt at relief.

Are you sure this isn't something you want to have your doctor check out?

Sorry you are in even more pain, G. I really feel for you. I have to ask myself, when will this finally go away for my friend, Grinch? As a poster said here, pain is pain is pain. I'm like Challis and agree with her assessment, since nothing else has worked for you. I think you are at your ropes end anyway, before the head pain even started. I Wikipediad this for you. It does not affect your GABA receptors, but does affect your opiod receptors.

Chal,

No. I know it's wd related. There isn't anything a doc can do but give me pain meds or a benzo....well I can't take the benzo  and I have a pain med if I want it. So...no....no docs. Part of why this process is so hard right....nothing can be done. All I would need is to go in and tell them I am on a .75mg of Xanax and have them tell me it's NOT wd bc "that's too small of a dose to cause wd" then call me a drug seeker...no thanks. Been there too many times. This really is a difficult period with these spasms and pain.

Yes Bets. I was at my ropes end in Feb when I began this taper  :'(. With this now...I just feel done....so done. And so desperate. My husband is totally against me taking the pain pill bc we have been doing this for so long and fought so hard without drugs. But he hasn't been in my body, he doesn't really know how much of a fight it's been, not even the slightest idea. I just am at that point where I just want a couple hrs break for this head pain. I don't know what else to do. Besides suffer.

I'm sorry to hear this, and I also suffered from extreme jaw, neck and shoulder pain in withdrawal.  I sometimes still have it, it's always been a tendency for me, but not very often nowadays.  If it's really bad I'll take 3 or 4 ibuprofen tablets, and that usually helps me.  Other otc pain relievers don't work for me.

Gads, I hope you can get through the holidays without jumping off a bridge. Frankly, I'm not as strong as you so that's what I would do. I would probably even do it tomorrow. :'( :'(

Grinch, When I'm in a bad state, I can't think clearly. It's like my mind is locked into a hopeless never-ending state of despair. Ya feel like you are the one and only person that is experiencing the hell and it will never end. You know the muscle pain is all part of withdrawl....that's half the battle. I just read Dr. Ashton's page, again!!!! specifically looking for muscle related symptoms and everything you mentioned is listed. The good thing is all of it is withdrawl related and nothing more.

That doesn't take away your pain though  :(  Dr. Ashton mentioned weekly massage therapy. I'm not talking about some big summa wrestler pounding the crap outta ya  ;)

My wife has suffered with severe chronic pain and been prescribed numerous meds, short term relief with lots of side-effects. However, once she started massage therapy, things improved-----ALOT!!!!

I went once and almost fell asleep. It's important to find a massage therapist that is trained in stress reduction. The place we go to has a room with soft lighting, meditation music playing and awesome heated oil!!!

If they are properly trained, you will walk out of your session feeling like an infant wrapped in a warm blanket. What you are feeling now is temporary. Remember your post about going swimming? Remember your post last week about how your nausea and anxiety are improving??

It's hard to recall those positive improvements when we are hurting, so I thought I jog your memory and give some incentive

Hang in there Grinch, you're a mean one  ;) ;)

Thanks everyone. I ve been doing ibuprofen among all the other things I listed above at an overwhelming dose and it's not helping.

I ve done message, with a good therapist, in the past weekly to no avail. My body is just too poisoned by the Xanax to have a good outcome with this yet. Maybe when I am off and not wding.

Which is why I was desperate to take the pain pill. Anything everyone has mentioned I have done already. Or am doing. Kinda the way it goes with us bbs who have been on the board this long....we know there is nothing to help and we have already tried everything there is to help.

Like Chal said...this might be my fate till the end and I ll only get relief when I jump. Too bad I have 3 ms to go  :'(

I broke a finger yesterday and they gave me tramadol at the hospital. I took some and felt much better yesterday, but today feel awful. I think the hydrocodiene would help initially but you might feel worse from it in the long run.

I have had constant headaches (migraine level) with this taper but today is something worse and I can only blame the different meds. I do not plan on taking more of them for the pain as I don't want this to happen again. Paracetamol will have to do  :(

It is ultimately up to you. I did feel better yesterday, (I didn't have a headache for the first time in forever it seems) and it did help with the break pain. But I don't think it is worth the wave it has brought on today.

Yes. .75 mgs exactly. I have 13 cuts/weeks to go. I guess that's not quite 3 ms....more like 2.5ms or something close to that. Seems like .75mg should be over in a few weeks! Bleh!

Grinch, have you tried acupuncture? It's even used as an alternative for anesthesia in surgery sometimes.

I second the acupuncture.  I tried it earlier this year for recurring (chronic) achilles tendonitis.  I had that on and off for 6 years.  Went to acupuncture for three months, GONE! Never thought this would work, but it did.
