Dry Skin + Hair Loss

[Th...]

Recommended Posts

I have greatly reduced my klonopin intake over the past couple of months from about 70mg a week to just 14mg a week. I've noticed that my skin has become very dry, like dead skin flakes fall out of my beard sometimes (I know this is disgusting) and my skin just feels different. In addition I have noticed significant hair loss since lowering my dose. My hair just feels very weak  for example I can just grab my chest hair and a handful will come out. I hope this isn't permanent. About a year ago I got tons of blood work and my thyroid checked and everything was okay. I have been wanting to see a dermatologist and a GP but have been so busy with work. Has anyone else experienced dry skin and hair loss all over their body from klonopin withdrawals? Is there any advice for the hair loss /dry skin.

Also to point out I'm not sure if it's related but I've been under a lot of stress lately. I had to move twice in the span of a month and a half while working 60 hours a week, I'm supporting my gf who is in inpatient treatment program for an eating disorder and their is constant drama in my family. I heard hair loss could be related to stress and I still have a full head of hair I just notice I can pull on hairs around my body and they come out without any pain.

Thank you for the advice.

well I have hair loss & stress is a factor, but I also heard that w/d is too

I had used hair glue to put in extensions like months ago & that also ruined it.

lol I like playing up my look , with hair but made a dumb decision with it

but good news is....it will grow back, I hear.

HELLO TIOD,

IT'S WD RELATED....

MY SKIN HAS "NEVER" BEEN THIS DRY...."EVER"....

I HAVE LONG HAIR AND IT IS FALLING OUT BY THE HANDS FULL...

I STARTED USING GRAPE SEED OIL & COCONUT OIL. THEY HAVE BOTH WORKED WONDERS!!!!  I CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW MUCH THE GRAPE SEED OIL HAS HELPED THE DRINESS ON MY FACE & I USE THE COCONUT OIL ON THE REST OF MY BODY. I PERSONALLY LIKE THE BRAND "SPECTRUM".

ALSO, YOU CAN EAT THE COCONUT OIL WHICH HELPS HEAL FROM THE INSIDE OUT (2 TBSP PER DAY) PUT IT ON TOAST, IN OATMEAL, OR HOW EVER YOU WANT TO DO IT.

GRAPE SEED OIL IS A SPECIALTY OIL YOU WON'T FIND IT WITH THE OILS; HOWEVER, COCONUT OIL MAY BE FOUND IN THE GROCERY STORE ON THE OIL ISLE.

BIOTIN FOR YOUR THINNING HAIR AND IT HELPS STRENGTHEN YOU NAILS TOO.

HOPE THAT HELPS.

HEALTH & HEALING TO YOU,

FLUTER

When I first sobered up from alcohol, this happened to me.  I developed eczema.  Although my hair didn't fall out, I had EXTREME dandruff and patches all over my body.  This happened to me five months after quitting.  It was disgusting and embarrassing. I went to the dermatologist and I cleared up in 2 weeks.

It's crazy to see what happens to our bodies when the GABA in your brain is effected.  I never thought to put two and two together that this was a withdrawal symptom.  Come to think about it, I've been noticing the same thing happening to me while I've been taking Klonopin. I'm glad you posted this.

Thank you guys for the tips. I told my psych that this has been happening and she told me it's just a symptom of stress and even though I've been more stressed than usual I really believe it's the withdrawal as none of this was happening before I reduced my dosage. Would seeing a dermatologist help? I don't have any noticeable patches where my hair has fallen out but it just falls out very easily like if I scratch my eyebrows I will usually get 1-2, and always notice my chest hair on my undershirts -.- ; hoping it improves and stops soon.

  • 1 month later...

Dry skin yes.

But I have the exact opposite of hair loss.

I'm a guy and during this time being on benzos.. my body hair got longer, spread.. and appeared in new places that there wasn't a single hair on them.

Any Explanations? I am 24 btw
