Hello, I had taken cloxazolam 5 to 7mg that is equivalent to about Valium 23mg for about 3 months. but one day as I took the benzo I had panick attack and hard breathing. even if I took lager dose these symptoms never goes away, ( it was not symptoms between dose and dose, it was ones during taking the dose.) so i was scared and I tapered rapidly to 4mg and did cold turky. but the withdrawal symptoms were  much worse ,so Im on 2mg now. but i still have these paradox symptoms. btw sleep is ok  I dont know if i need to taper rapidly or slowly. Has anyone tapered off with this kind of problem? Please give me advice thanks.

Hi, Moe14.

Welcome to benzobuddies. Glad you found us.  :)

Yes, some members to report paradoxical symptoms. I would try to avoid any more rapid tapers and especially avoid stopping cold turkey. This seems to make withdrawal much, much worse. Please taper very slowly.

A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  It’s great for learning about these meds and for taper plans. Ashton recommends reducing between 5 - 10% every 10/14 days.

You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards.

In addition to the Ashton Manual, here are some other resources:

For tapering advice, post here: General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms you may have, post here: Withdrawal Support

Please add a signature (history of medication/doses etc). It will help members give you relevant advice. This link will show you how to Create a signature

Please let us know if you have any questions.

welcome  :) yes, we have some other member that have paradoxical symptoms upon taking there dose Benzodiazepines are really not meant to take past a couple of weeks as long term they can cause a host of problems. A cold turkey withdrawal is never advised. Stopping too suddenly can cause severe symptoms. Personally I would come up with a slow sensible taper.

Thank you so much for the replies. ok I'll taper slowly.  i think many buddies restart to cut after a stable condition comes but in my case paradox symptoms and withdrawals are mixed, so its difficult to feel what is a stable condition. Do i need to taper constantly like 10 to 14 weeks instead of holding too long becoz I have held for 3 months but my condition wasnt better like i wish. my biggest worry is that i didnt reinstate to my original dose after stopping cold turkey and I started taking the half dose of the original.. but even if i increase dose, i know i'll get only worse effects. but I wonder if i can recover ..    i failed in tapering two times,so Im scared  :-\

Thank you.

Moe, you said you are feeling better this week?  Sometimes I experience it also, even thinking that I can quit.  Be careful, do not miss a dose or change the rate of your tapering.  If you are feeling good, maintain that stability by NOT MISSING A DOSE.  I am at 0.3125 mg Klonopin and I had bad withdrawal symptoms again.  I took two doses by mistake and skipped the next day.  I am now at Day 7, I have not attained the stability but I am better compared to previous days.  I will resume tapering when I feel better.

MEexpat,

Thanks a lot yes ok I wont miss dose. Yes I have been feeling better this week compared to the bad days of this year..not all hours though. Is this stable condition or just having no side effect (paradox symptoms) fortunately? I dont know at all :( wonder if side effect gets smaller when dose is smaller.. but ok I wont change the rate of tapering. even if i do that, I'll cut a very very small dose. coz it takes 3 YEARS and half to off with my now tapering rate..  :-\

That is good news if you are feeling better.  You said not all hours.  The happy moments - they call it window.

Ms pianogirl said that side effects are more intense at lower dose.

But I really feel that side effects are less intense as we go down, BUT our brain is more precarious or sensitive to changes of dose.  So, even at low dose we can have serious horrible withdrawal symptoms (the same hell during higher dose).

Now it seems that you are in good terms with your tapering.  Wait a little more, try getting longer windows.  And be very careful, if you fall in the dark pit again, it takes time to climb out.
