Hi Pocahontas2

Welcome to benzobuddies,  your English is fine. "Tapering" means gradually reducing the dose you are taking.  Stopping abruptly would cause very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.  Benzodiazepines should be reduced slowly.  Have you read the Ashton Manual, I will put a link here for you: “Professor Ashtons Manual” It is an authoritative resource on benzodiazepines and how to withdraw, the general rule of thumb is to reduce between 5/10% every 10/14 days

Please feel free to check out the forum and post to any of the dedicated boards, you'll find a great community of people who are here to support and encourage you.

For tapering advice General Taper Plans  For support with any symptoms you may have post here: Withdrawal Support

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to”Create a signature”

If you have any questions, let us know.

Welcome Aboard

Hi pocahontas,

I shall try to explain it very simple. if you stop taking the Acepram , its  like setting off a

bushfire , a big one which is painful and can do  damage, if you taper in a sensible way

there might be a fire with smoke but you won't get hurt so much.

Glad you have joined us and i wish you all the best,

ciao Claudia. :smitten:

Hello pocahontas2,

I too would like to welcome you to the forum  :)

Are you thinking about coming off your benzodiazepine? if so you'll be given plenty of support and tapering assistance here.

As others have said a slow, careful taper is the way to go after long term benzo use to ensure that any withdrawal effects you do have will be kept to a minimum. A cold turkey which basically means stopping the medication abruptly is not recommended and can be dangerous with the risk of seizures. By reducing the medication very gradually (tapering) your withdrawal should remain very manageable.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you well.

Debbie

Hello Pocahontas2,

Your ID caught my attention.  I love that movie.

I am on my second half of tapering.  Trying to get back my normal life.

Tapering is cutting down your dosage, slowly.  To avoid unbearable withdrawal symptoms.

Tapering is also like a journey.  You will discover many things along the way, there could be pitfalls and unexpected happiness.
