Jerryk, if Ive said this before, bear with me. But, has it occurred to you that you could be in tolerance withdrawal? And just prolonging the agony by continuing to take a routine dose?

BTW, you're not a bozo. You're a man of few words, but you make perfect sense.

YES indeed, however I also wonder if I'm suffering from depression, or dementia, or schizo or bipolar, or.  ..  I feel so freaking crazed in between doses, I fear feeling that way 24x7.    I plan to restart my taper imminently.  But I am scared. very scared.

You won't know unless you try. And you won't know if your issues are indeed the Xanax unless you get off. You may not feel any worse while you taper. Just go slow. You ll have answers when you are off.

Jerryk, I am PROUD of you for making that decision! I know you're scared. I know you worry about having some mental health problem. But the only way to find out is to get off the benzo and see what happens. I hope you know that.

But - good for you, coming to that decision. Who knows, may e this time your taper will go smoothly. Benzo withdrawal is unpredictable, and just because you had trouble last time doesn't mean you will this time.

Your fears - I would suggest you make yourself a promise NOT to read any post that scares you. When you start reading one and it worries you....click off it immediately. Perhaps focus on reading Success Stories, or other uplifting posts.

everything scares me.  :smitten:

Success stories can be just as unnerving IMO. So many "22 months and finally healed".... That is terrifying to me too! I don't want to think that I ll be in this still 22 months from my jump! That would be awful! So I don't read the success stories either. And the post-taper board isn't much help either...stay away from that too. I just do the work and live my own journey as hard as that is most of the time
