I have joined due to year long use of Clonazepam. I was on it for ten months (1 mg). I came back overseas and decided to cold turkey for 5 days when I got back. Went back on and did a poor taper for six weeks. My last day was Sept 23 rd. I had insomnia from the cold turkey and have had it since (three months now). I am taking Mirtazapine and Zoplicone now. My anxiety is horrible now. My doctor suggested going back on and tapering again. I don't want to do that. Please give me advice.

Hi varmit and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear you're still suffering symptoms from the Clonazepam withdrawals.  Cold turkey withdrawal is usually pretty brutal and the symptoms can last for awhile.  Followed by a rapid taper, this may explain why you're still having symptoms.  It takes some time to recover from the symptoms... insomnia and anxiety are two of the most common.

A good place to start posting is in Post Withdrawal Support and you may also want to talk to the folks in the Klonopin Support group for more info.

An online version of the Ashton Manual is a great source of information for benzodiazepine withdrawal as well.

Please include your benzodiazepine information in your posts.  To make that easier by adding it to each post automatically, you can go up to Profile, choose Forum Profile, write the information in the text box and click Change Profile.

Take care,

Challis

Hello, varmit,

Glad you got off the Klonapin, but you're still take zoplicone (Lunesta) which is a Z drug. Z drugs act almost identically to benzos, and have their own withdrawal. They are addictive, too.

Mirtazine (Remeron) is used by many members for sleep and depression. Some people find they have withdrawal symptoms when they taper off of it.

Are you planning to taper off zoplicone?

Hi varmit,

i just want to point out that Zopiclone (z-drugs) work similar to

Benzodiazepines. Therefore has to be tapered off in a sensible manner as well.

here is the Z-DRUGS SUPPORT GROUP:

How do Benzos affect the brain ? interesting.

Thanks for the replies. I understand about the zoplicone and its effects. I will taper off it when I can. Unfortunately, it is the only drug that lets me sleep. Tried Trazadone and Sequorel. The Remeron lets me drift in and out a little bit.

I understand, but remember whilst taking Zoplicone you are still on a sort of Benzo so to speak.

Insomnia (no sleep ) is part of the recovery process as well. Its a common symptom (sx) and

unless you don't push through it, you haven't really started your recovery journey.
