Question about exercise during taper

[co...]

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! My physical activity has been put on hold for awhile now and I'd like to start slowly exercising again. The only problem is I often feel physically weak and fatigued. I always feel the need to "rest" but I don't think it's helping me much.

Has anyone else followed an easy exercise regimen during their taper? How do I know I won't overdo it and induce an energy crash?

I rode my bike to work and back home each day as my exercise.  6.8 mile round trip.  Takes me around 30 minutes a day.  I don't go fast.  A person could also walk for 30-60 minutes a day and it would be mellow.  Lots of easy options out there.

My advice would be to start slow and increase from there... start going on light walks for 10 minutes or so and see how your body responds... increase from there and if you have a bit of kick back, you can always take a day off or cut back a bit... best thing, listen to your body always :)

I walk 40 mins  a day and lift weights 2 times a week.

Sometimes the weight training revs you up a bit so I don't do it on the week of a cut, So 2 times a week for 3 weeks of the month.

Exersise is imperative for me.

Start slow and work up.

Also being in shape can lift your mood just by looking at yourself

Thanks for the suggestions! I walked my dog for about 10-15 minutes last night. I felt tired afterward but it didn't result in a complete energy crash so that's good!  :)

That's brilliant courtney :).

Stick with that for about a week or so then increase if you feel you can.

If you like fruit have a banana about 20/30 mins before you go just incase of an energy crash

I miss the gym, the best I have ever felt in my life was when I was working out daily and now I just lay around all day. I know its not healthy but I have a hard time doing anything else.

Only you know your limits.

Maybe at some point you could start by walking up and down the stairs or something?

I live in a town house so I go up and down steps a few times a day. I also have a puppy she wears me out

Good tip, I'll remember that! Also, stairs are the worst for me. I climb one flight of stairs and I have to stand at the top to catch my breath. Funny to think I used to run laps around a track for fun lol.

I have a puppy too! Well, he's 1.5 years old so not much of a puppy anymore, but he still acts like one!

So aerobic exercise is the one that produces more cortisol, correct?  I felt worse on tuesday, when i did some aerobic exercise.  Weight lifting didn't seem to be as much of a problem

long distance runners probably have the highest cortisol levels, but keep in mind that cortisol release is modified by experience. Those new to exercise will secrete more cortisol than people who have been working out for a long time. One easy way to manage cortisol is to get sufficient rest between exercise sessions.

Saying that I find that some days my weight training can really give me a cortisol rush.

Vitamin c can help with reducing it.
