Vistaril 25 mgs 4xs a day

My doctor gave me vistaril 25mgs 4xs a day while i come off my xanax. Has anyone taken this? I think they gave it to me via IV when I was in labor to help me sleep after being up and in labor for 3 day, if it's that it hit hard and I did not like it it threw me into a panic because it gave me a "buzz".  I would like a non benzo for when im having a panic attack during the taper and after I am benzo free.

I take atarax/ vistaril at night occasionally to assist with sleep and I dont have any problems. However, I only take 1/2 of a 25 mg pill so only quite a low dosage. I found that if I took the whole 25mg pill I felt groggy the following morning. I know that vistaril as a sleep aid is quite well tolerated with members, hopefully somebody who has taken it to help with anxiety will chip in to advise you.

I took Atarax ( Vistaril ) for a while for sleep, I think for approximately 1.5 months during my recent insomnia days. My dose was 50 - 100mg/night, and I believe I hoovered around 75mg/night for sleep.

 

At first, the medication was a god send. I would get these deep sleep and then wake up feeling a little groggy but some coffee would turn that around. But after a while I was noticing that the effects were wearing off and I would wake up multiple times in a state of panic or anxiety ( this could be due to my misuse of Klonopin to help with anxiety so please read my post with a grain of salt )....

 

I decided to stop the medication. Looking back, it may have been a great choice but my biggest concern by far is SLEEP ARCHITECTURE. Medications like anti-histamines and benzos disrupt sleep architecture and that is something I don't want. I need all the SWS and stage 3/4 sleep I can get as I believe this is the restorative sleep and release of GH that our body produces.

 

Medications that I've researched that don't affect sleep architecture are Tri-A/Ds such as Trazodone, Amitryipltiline and Remeron ( If I remember correctly, they can improve SWS and stage 3/4 ) but many SSRI's, SNRI's, Benzo's and Anti-Histamines will disrupt this natural sleep.

If it's what they gave me in the hospital it sent me into a panic then i fell asleep, i had asle been in labor no sleep for 3 days so who knows lol, I have taken phengren(sp?) 25mg for sleep help in the past. I have not heard many good things about the vistrail I most lkel will not take it.

its up to you if you want to take the vistaril but I have never heard anything bad about it on BB or anywhere else. Nor have I had any bad experience with it at the following nightly doses: 12.5 mg, 25 mg, or 37.5 mg. It may make me drowsy the next morning, but damn, the sleep is pretty good it brings.

Just so you know, Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is not the same thing as Phenergan. They are sort of similar, but not alike. Vistaril is prescribed for anxiety and sleep, along with other uses. It may cause drowsiness, so driving or using machinery while on it is not advised. It does have side effects, like all drugs. And not everyone gets sleepy on it...a few people have a paradoxical reaction to it and become agitated.

That's why happened to me. About a half hour after I took it I became so agitated that all I could do was pace around the house. Yuck on that drug for me. Bets

I have taken phenergan before, I know how my body reacts to it that's why I thought it might be better. The vistaril not so much.

When I went to detox vistaril was used  pretty routinely. Although it did nothing for me, I saw it work for many. I have also seen members here use it successfully and found it very helpful with withdrawal symptoms, especially insomnia and anxiety.

Im more worried about it making me feel buzzed or groggy, that feeling makes me panic. If it helps with stomach issues that could be a huge help to me, because I constantly feel sick to my stomach. Im still able to sleep, but i haven't changed my bedtime dose. my anxiety is high but it always has been. my mom is coming over today i may take one while shes here. Im alone most of the time and always scared to take anything new.

I think they only come in capsules, but if its a tablet, break it in half and try that. Let us know how it goes...

I will, I have to go tot the grocery tonight  so I may take one about 30 mins before I leave. My mom will be driving and with me incase it does put me on my bootay lol, I will keep everyone posted. thank you all so much.
