Question Re: Airline travel with liquid Ativan

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has travelled with a compounded liquid? I will be taking a fight (Air Canada) from Toronto to Mexico for 1 week vacation next week and wondering if My Liquid ativan will be an issue . I was planning to carry a smaller cooler bag onboard with 2 small ice packs in it  and asking flight attendant to put the bottle in the fridge for the flight. Thanks.

As OCD as I was while on ativan, I would never let that bottle out of my sight. I would think your ice pack cooler would keep it cold for the entire duration from toronto to mexico without the need to hand it over to the airline, where it will be out of your control.

I would bring some pills with you, if you still have any, just in case something goes kaplooey with the liquid, like they decide you can't take it on the plane, it can't be refrigerated, or you SPILL IT, God forbid.  When I tried to switch to Valium and then went on a flight. The Valium decided not to work as well as the Ativan right when I was getting on the plane.  I was literally melting down in the airport.  THANKFULLY, I had thrown in my bottle of Ativan and had to switch back to it right then and there.  Please take some pills with you just in case.

Make sure your pills or liquid are in the correct bottle/vial. If a baggage checker finds a liquid amount in an unmarked bottle, you might be having lunch with the FAA and Secret Service.  And laser is right. Keep the meds in YOUR CONTROL at all times. That means carry on. Just imagine if a flight attendant tells you that your baggage has been flown to Russia by mistake.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep the bottles with me in the cooler bag . I still have some Ativan tablets to bring as a backup. I was just wondering If Customs at airport ( either in Toronto or mexico ) would give me a hard time because ativan is considered a "controlled substance" now in Ontario. I have everything in the original pharmacy bottles and I have asked the pharmacy for a copy of the original prescription just in case. Have left a message for my doctor too to request she fax a letter to the pharmacy for me ( not sure if this is required?) but I don't wan't any hassles at customs.

If you have a script and a bottle/vial with you that has the label on them, then I think you'll be OK. I've done this with trips within the US, and never had a problem. Mexico? Who knows....They may wonder why you have a cooler, but no soda in it. I'm sure the US baggage checkers will open your cooler as well, because there aren't too many people who fly with a cooler. Everyone is suspect these days. When I went to the FM concert, there were Army personnel there. And I got wanded twice and had to empty my purse three times. I sad world we live in....I decided to skip my PM dose and left my valium in the car.

This is why its so necessary to get off these poisons, to free us from their chains. So we dont have to worry about the "safety" of our benzo when traveling.

Thanks for the reply. I' m flying direct from Toronto to Puerto Vallarta ,so not going through any U.S. customs. Actually my little "cooler bag" is a little lunch bag that has ice packs built in it . It just looks a regular small lunch bag. I think they may be used to people flying with insulin which has to be refrigerated as well or carried in cooler bag. I was just worrying because it is a liquid benzo . Was your Valium you were travelling with pills or liquid?
