Tramedol

Recommended Posts

I have a labral tear in the cartilage in my hip and also have arthritis in my hips.  Sometimes it revs up and I take 50 mg tramadol twice a day or so for a couple days until it settles down.  This happens every couple of weeks or so. It seems there may be a connection with a reving of symptoms the day after I stop taking the tramadol.

Tramedol is a non-opiod pain reliever but acts similar.  It's actually an SNRI. I guess that doesn't really matter except it seems as tho I'm experiencing a mini withdrawal when I stop taking it. It's pretty rough.  My anxiety/panic/fear goes into overdrive and the world becomes a very ugly place.

Has anyone else gone through this?

This doesn't surprise me since it's an snri.  Messing around with all these neurotransmitters upstream and downstream the gaba complex, it only makes sense.  Our bodies will remain sensitive to anything that messes around with all this while we're still healing.

I'm unclear on the non-opioid status of this medicine.  I've heard it is, and it isn't.  Never really bothered to research it, though one lady at work screams that it is an opiate.  She yells so loudly that it's addictive and is so irritating I can't be bothered to discuss it with her.

I've taken it, but was on so much xanax and all that brings I couldn't tell if it had any effect at all.

I'm assuming the nsaids aren't enough for the pain.

It's kind of an interesting drug. It's not an opioid but just a couple months ago it was reclassified by the DEA as a Schedule IV controlled substance.  I have heard it can be addicting as well so I'm very wary of it.

Truth is between it's addicting possibilities and the w/d I'm trying to stay away from it. Problem is that when things flare I have a hard time walking.  The Orthopedic surgeon told me I will most likely need to have my hips replaced in the next few years.  So it's a real challenge.

Some time after jumping I took hydrocodone for tooth pain.  I never really cared much for opiates while I was using benzos but didn't know how I would respond after stopping.

My reaction to them was bad.  All kinds of head weirdness.  Panicky after a couple doses I stopped taking them.

I mention this only because I've always seen tramedol as a viable option to opiates in time of need.  Being aware of the snri part, I've occasionally wondered how I would respond to it.

There will come a time when I will find out, I'm sure.

To add, I had knee surgery twice in 99.  Orthopod told me I'd need to replace the knee within a year.  I have not.

I understand that panicky feeling. That was my "today".

I'm probably going to rely on Tramedol if necessary.  I'm now aware of the possibility of panic as a result. I've put some things in place (recumbent bike, walking) etc, that I'm expecting will hopefully eliminate or limit these flairs and therefore my need for the meds.

To your point, I've been told to reserve final judgment when taking advice from someone who will profit from said advice. I am planning on getting further opinions from those for whom that is not true.  Glad to hear your knee is functional and you didn't pay for your docs Christmas
