SSRI to help with social anxiety and depression

Went to the doc the other day and talked through everything I'm going through.

I'm in a very depressed stage, I don't do much. I feel very disconnected most of the time. As a result of not meeting people my social anxiety, which I had pre-benzo aswell, is getting worse.

I have been depressed for the last 6 years I guess, even if the benzos masked it well.

So he suggested an SSRI (along with therapy), probably Zoloft, cipralex or citalopram.

Anyone have any experience? How do they work on depression and anxiety?

I been fighting the idea of starting a new prescription med but I've realised that if something can make me feel a bit better and actually do things instead of just staying inside, it's worth it.

And I hate this social phobia cus the only time I'm happy is actually when I'm around people and socialize. Talk about catch 22

This is one you gotta decide for yourself. Some people have reported amazing results from SSRIs. Others have said they plain don't work. They may also ramp up your side effects before it starts to work. Just like benzos, there may bee a discontinuation syndrome. You kinda gotta weigh the pros and cons. :( I personally tried Lexapro and had an awful reaction to it, but I would have loved for a med to work in this situation so I could be functional.

I just started Remron 3 weeks ago. It is not an SSRI. I believe it is in the older class of Anti-d's and works on the Dopamine receptors.

I was very depressed after my year long taper from klono. Have not been sleeping and had really crazy thoughts.

Never have been on an anti-d before. My family is noticing the difference in me. I am too. I am liking this new me a little more each day.

So, I think it is worth a try....

3 weeks and you will know if this is going to work.

Thanks for the response!

I'm gonna give it a try. I need to find some balance and I think this might a step in that direction

I hope it works for ya!! Maybe try slowly tapering on? Just to ease the symptoms a bit? Good luck man. :)
