Ambien help

Recommended Posts

I am living a nightmare.  Several years ago I was given Xanex by my doctor. I was naive and didn't realize they were addicting and took them every day. After 6 weeks. I started having withdrawals if I didn't take them. It scared me so I stopped taking them immediately which I soon learned was the wrong thing to do. I missed 4 weeks of work. That was all behind me until recently when I encountered severe insomnia. My doctor perscribed ambien.  I took 7.5 mg for two nights and when I dropped it to 5 mgs I had full blown withdrawals. A few days later I dropped it again to 2.5 mgs which is what I am taking now. I did experience withdrawals with that drop as well, but not as severe as the first taper.

Now I'm not sure what I need to do or how to taper. Is ambien suitable for titration?  I am a little afraid to switch to Valium because I've read you and still have withdrawals with the crossover. I also don't know how to go about doing that, how long the crossover should take. Please help!!  I need some direction. I can't miss work this time.

Hi easttexasgal :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Stopping Z drugs such as Ambien can be just as difficult as from withdrawing from benzodiazepines. If you have been on them for less than a few weeks you should be able to stop them just like that.
