Trying to taper off Klonopin .5mg

[Vi...]

Recommended Posts

Hi. My name is Vicki. I have been on and off Klonopin .5mg at night for several years. I want to get off of it once and for all. I have a hard time weaning off it and am looking for help. I will not be replacing with another benzo. Thank you for your help.

Hi Vickkiser  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on your decision to taper from Klonopin. I think that if you do a sensible slow taper you can minimize withdrawal symptoms. This is a great place for resources and support.

Hi,

I'm pretty new to BB too, but I want to let you know that I came off a slightly higher dose than you of the same medication. I had to crossover to diazepam because the withdrawal from that one was too much for me. So, just keep the crossover idea in the back of your mind if you're having trouble with a straight taper. It worked much better for me, since diazepam gave me a smoother ride.

It's just a suggestion and everyone is different. I wish you all the best, and just know that it IS possible to get off this medication, and you WILL make it.

Regards,

Welcome to Benzobuddies Vickkiser

I too am tapering from .5 mg clonazepam and have not crossed to Valium and hope not to.  So far it's been doable.  Not at all pleasant but doable.  I used compounded pills and liquid and started with .05 mg cuts.  You could try that much and see how you do with it.  Could shave it back or speed up according to how you are doing.  I was a shorter time user than you but was at a higher dose of Ativan before crossing over to clonazepam.  You can look at my progress log below to see what I have used to help sleep and how my cuts went.  Another person who recently successfully tapered off clonazepam was longdistancerunner you can search her and look at her progress log.

Good luck.

It's great to have access to compounded pills and liquid. I support that. I had to do that when I came off Prozac and was very grateful to be able to do so. Since clonazepam is small and can be hard to cut into tiny pieces, compounded pills can solve the problem. Good idea!

Best wishes,
