The Minority

It is commonly stated here that we are in the minority of folks withdrawing from benzos-- i.e, most ppl don't experience such horrific symptoms, even after long term use.  Based on a few others I know personally, this may be true. But how much of a minority are we in the benzo wd population? There are 16,000 members on this forum. As a percentage of folks who choose to withdraw, do ypu think we are 10%, 5%, 1%, etc? I have no clue. Does anyone have an idea of how to quantify?

That's a good question, and one I have thought about.  I find it hard to believe the majority have no problems getting off benzos.  I guess that's based on my own horrific experience.  Where are the statistics?

We certainly are a minority here even in the benzo wd population. I believe it is said that for every 1 person that posts on a message board there are 100 more that read but never post. Of course not all of the people who are just reading are experiencing benzo wd, but certainly a fair number of them are and based upon that alone we can extrapolate that BB membership makes up only a fraction of wd sufferers. Add to that the fact that many people don't speak english and some don't have a computer or aren't internet savvy or simply aren't aware that this kind of place exists and it is easy to see that there are a whole lot more people who are dealing with this at any given time.

Probably almost impossible to quantify, but we by far are the minority.  I personally have known several people in my lifetime that we able to stop just like that. I wish I could say that I was one of them
