5% of 4 mg = 0.05 x 4 mg = 0.20 mg

That's not what you would remove from a pill, fwiw.  That would depend on the weight of the pill.  A 2 mg pill doesn't weigh 2 mg - it weighs a lot more.

Could someone tell me what 5% of 4mg of diazepam is please.

Then would I cut  5% every day ?

Maths are beyond me  :idiot:

5% of 4mg is 0.2mg. The simple way to calculate it is like this ....  (4 x 5) ÷ 100 = 0.2mg. Or if you have a calculator with a percentage key, it would be 4 x 5 and then hit the % key.

So 0.2mg is the total amount you would cut over a period of time. It's not what you would cut every day. So, let's say you wanted to cut 0.2mg over 10 days, you would calculate it like this .... 0.2mg ÷ 10 days = 0.02mg per day.

Now I know you are thinking about doing a liquid taper, using 100ml of liquid. So to work out how much of that liquid you would need to reduce each day, it’s just a case multiplying by 100. (0.02mg x 100 = 2ml reduction per day).

Of course you may want to increase the number of days over which you cut that 0.2mg, so you would just adjust the figures above. Or let me know what time frame you're thinking about, and I'll work it out for you. :)

Hi DP

I want to cut out 1/4 of a 2mg tablet over  time.  I've been reading your taper  advice and

it's 100 days to cut 1mg, so I figure it would be 50 days to cut a 1/4 .

I would like to work with a 1/4 tablet titration,  how much liquid would I use ?

Thanks so much for all your help...  Your a star !!!! :smitten:

I personally wouldn't just use 1/4 of a 2mg tablet, because that would mean cutting your tablet twice, and every time you cut a tablet the chances are that the cuts will be inaccurate. Cutting once, to get 1mg, is fine provided you use up the other half within a day or two though.

I'm not good with numbers either, and that’s why I’m a big advocate for the KISS method. So, if it was me, I would stick with the 1mg=100ml method. I honestly think it's the best and easier way to go about this because once you've got the 1mg in the 100ml, you can just totally forget about the mgs and percentages, and just think in terms of mls and days. Sure there are other methods, like 2mg in 100ml, or 1mg in 10ml, but both of them make a more concentrated liquid and also make measuring less straight forward.

So if you're working with 100ml (equalling 1mg) then all you have to do is work out over how many days you want to reduce 1mg. If you reduce by 1ml per day it will take you 100 days. If you reduce by 1.5ml per day it will take 66 days, and if you reduce by 2ml per day it will take 50 days.

Of course you have to be the one to decide what will be the right amount for you, but seeing as you're a bit nervous about this whole process I would suggest you start out with 1ml per day, and see how you go. I personally wouldn't go any higher than 2ml per day though, seeing as you're only on 4mg.

You can also pick a number in between those amounts, if you feel you need to really tweak your dose (eg you could reduce by 1.2ml per day and that would take 83 days). Sometimes 1ml per day might be a bit slow, but 1.5ml per day might be a bit fast, so you can pick a number in between. This might also come in handy when your dose gets really low and you feel you need to make much smaller cuts per day.
