1st week completely off K after 6 years

Well, it's been a few days since I have posted and I thought I would post an update:

6 years of .5 mg each night.  Over 2 weeks I went to .25 then .11.5 then nothing.  Each taper I would have rebound anxiety and extreme dp/dr.  But now that I'm a week completely off today I woke up feeling good.  I felt refreshed and my anxiety is finally down and dp/dr hasn't been near as extreme.  I was really expecting it to be a lot worse.  2 years ago when I tried to stop it was horrible, but I think the Remeron this time around has cheated me through the withdrawal symptoms.  If the dp/dr will go away at some point, I will be verrrry happy.  Just glad I don't have to worry about K holding back emotions and creativity.

Hi. I know what you mean about K hindering emotions/creativity. I had forgotten how numb my mind was until I started tapering.

Glad you're doing better.

Having glutamate isn't always a bad thing it's responsible for learning and memory! Too much is our problem, and down regulated gaba receptors :/

This post gives me hope.

I'm on 4mg a day, have been for 5 and a half years.

I'm gonna start tapering off .5mg-1mg every 2 weeks starting in December/January.

Did Remeron really help? I've been prescribed it in the past, and never took it, because I didn't feel like introducing more drugs into my system.

Ntt, yes.  The Remeron is what's helping for me.  I know what works for one person doesn't always work for another.  I tried to stop K a few years back and couldn't do it (and I wasn't even working at the time! Yikes!).  Now I work everyday with no problems at all.  I sleep great and eat well.  Definitely something to look into.  The first few days you will feel kinda groggy and tired.  But after my first week that all went away.  Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Today (8th day, I think lol) has been my best day.  Woke up feeling refreshed and worked very good today.  Was very productive and noticed myself listening to loud rock instead of talk radio on the way to work haha!  I think my feelings are coming back, thank God.  DP/DR is still heavy in the afternoons, but I think that will take the most time to go away which I cannot wait!.  But anxiety is low, sleep is good, appetite is very good and outlook is great.  Today when I was outside I remember thinking "why didn't I do this sooner?!".  Was nice to feel in touch with my surroundings and not a lump with that droopy look on my face showing no emotion.  I have company coming over soon and I'm not anxious about it.  Looking forward to watching baseball and drinking a few beers then eat!!  Followed by very good sleep!  Hope this gives someone hope that it's not always bad.  The Remeron has been a godsend.
