What Blood Type Are You?

I'm AB- and my taper went fairly smooth with some periods of hiccups re: depressive symptoms. But I have to factor in that I was on antidepressants during my taper and also peri-menopausal.

After my jump, I made pretty good headway after three months off and by six months I was back to baseline. I was curious how different blood types fare. An AB blood type has two antigens, so I was wondering if that helps in the healing process. Plus, does Rh positive or negative have anything to do with healing? Food for thought.

Any thoughts welcome.

Hi there Danni!!!

OMG... you have not been on here in eons... It is GREAT to see you visiting! :smitten:

How are you doing lady?

You know, this is really a topic that is of interest to me...makes me wonder if blood type may be part of the reason(s) some of us struggle more with vast & intense symptoms that seem to linger forever, while others get through this process with less debilitating symptoms rather quickly hmmm  :-\

I go to my Dr. in November & I will find out my blood type for sure.

Hopefully others will chime in here & share their types & any knowledge they may have on this topic.

Thanks for starting this... I will be watching this thread for sure! ;)

I'm also AB.  I am 15 1/2 months off K and still pretty wavy.  BUT, other than some REALLY uncomfortable days, it's not holding me back too much.  My taper was fairly smooth.

So you are an AB as well as Danni. Just "uncomfortable & fairly smooth" taper for you" Thanks for sharing this.

Also, Danni & HH:  re: the 3rd antigen, the Rh factor... do you ladies know if this  is present or absent in your blood?

I do hope more folks find this & share. It could provide more insight to understanding the vast array of differences amongst us. Maybe a common denominator.

This is very interesting for sure!

AB's are rare blood types.  Interesting, there are two here.  I also have rare blood type:  A, du+(weak positive Rh factor).  I was told less than 1 percent of population has this rare Rh factor.

O positive here.  ;)

5 years benzo free. My taper went pretty smoothly but I'm in protracted now.

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with Danni.

I'm AB+

After a rapid taper from clonazepam and past cold turkeys I'm still a disaster at 26 months off with fatigue, head pressure, dr/dp and pain.

I honestly don't even remember...haven't had anyone ask me that question in a long time. I should probably figure it out, if I get in a car accident(knock on wood) or some type of accident, and need a blood transfusion, it would definitely help to know.

Look at all these AB's here?  this is so unusual.  What's the percentage of AB's?  I can't remember.  It's less than 5 percent, I believe.

Notforme,  I wonder if your other family members could be A pos?  They never found out about this weak Du+ that I've got until the sixties, I think. My dad had been typed negative Rh and then finally positive.

Hi Becksblue,

The OP specifically mentions AB blood types, so irrespective of how many people in the general population are of the AB blood type, Danni's post will encourage a greater response from people with this blood-type over other types. Simply, you should expect skewed results/responses from/to this uncontrolled thread (not to mention inherent the unreliability associated with a tiny sample size).

On a more general note, I am not aware of any evidence which suggests a link between specific blood types and problems/benefits with benzodiazepine use or withdrawal.

The blood types serve some purpose in our physiology, IMO.  I just read that 1% have AB-, and 4% AB+,  My Du+ is .75%, or less than 1%, of the population.  I remember books coming out years ago about the blood type diet.  Different diets for different blood types.

Becks,

I still have the Blood Type Diet book in my bookcase, from years ago!

I am B+. My Dad was AB-, really rare.

I had an AAS degree in Lab Tech, wanted to go on to be a Blood Bank Specialist. The U I went to didn't have Med Tech BS degree, so I switched majors like an idiot. I should have gone to the private school and took out loans or something. I loved Blood Banking, LOVED it. I got A's in it and Serology, was told by the Blood Bank Manager at the hospital I did my 2 year lab degree rotation That I was excellent in it.

What a waste of a life. It is one of my biggest regrets. :(

I have a degree with a major in Med. Lab Tech.  I got the only A in Clinical Chemistry the teacher ever gave a student up to that point.  5 credit course.  We started with 30 students and ended with about 12.  Everyone dropped out because it was too hard.  I also have about 30 credits in Health Records Administration.  I worked as a Medical Data Abstractor for a few years and read over 1000 medical records of patients with heart disease, stroke, etc. and abstracted data from them.  Lots of reading.  Brain drain work, but I loved it.  Blood bank and Serology were so easy, those courses.  I was so bored, I got a B in them.  I liked Microbiology, too.  Ended up graduating with honors.  So much for tooting my own horn.  I always wanted to be a doctor, but opportunity and money weren't there.  My passion has always been medical field stuff.

Wow Becks...that is impressive. You have every right to be proud.

I wish more people would post blood types here.

I worked hard in college because I loved it.  I was addicted to those med courses.  Couldn't wait to go to school and learn more.  Felt so comfortable with it.  My father was in med field in the Army, sanitation tech/engineer.  Would go to Africa, and far out places, and sanitize the water supply for the troops.  He loved med stuff, too.  Now, I have no interest in anything anymore because my brain is fried.  I wish I had interest and joy again, but I don't.
