How did you feel at month 5? Is it ok to feel worse?

I thought I'd be feeling a little better than this at this point. 5 months since I took my last dose. Feel really, really unwell.

Any encouragement? Is it okay to be feeling really bad at this point/is it still considered fairly early on in recovery?

I know people suffer for far longer, but I was only on the valium 2 and a half years and I'm only 26 yrs old so I'd hoped recovery would be quick and I'm having one of those losing-hope-feeling-disheartened days ):

Hi Aurora.......yes that is normal......I felt unwell so much of the time at 4, 5 ,6 mos......try not to worry.....I am almost healed just a small amount of tinnitus left....you will be okay.....just try to read about positive things on here.....also try to keep reassuring yourself that it is w/d and you will heal.....that is hard, but it is the only way to stay sane, when you get slammed with escalating s/x .... :tickedoff:

Hang in there....m :smitten:...

Hi Aurora,

Its not unusual at all.

You say you feel unwell - can you be more specific? I could be a lot more helpful if I knew what was going on.

Aurora,  I had a mild window at month 3 and was very sick again around month 4-5.  Not as bad as the first month but bad.  I am now coming back into a window so yes it normal from my experience and what I have seen here.  Hang in there!!!

I'm 5  months off as well and still going up and down.  Having strong waves.  Headaches, sinus pain, depression, sense of unease.

Oh man month 5 was tough.  I felt stagnant like things werent getting better but at the same time not getting worse.  Month 6 was a turning point but still troublesome and now at 7 feeling a bit better.  Im hoping month 8 is month to celebrate.

Month 5 was pure torment for me.  I ended up back in ER concvinced it couldnt be w/d this bad this far out.  Well it was.  I am now at 8 months and I am like 95% and have very short waves or ripples I call them because they are so minor and short lived.  I have been feeling like my old self for almost 1.5 months now and just waiting to post my success story.  Just hold on it will get better and I totally understand where you are at right now.

Sorry, I didn't list specific symptoms because I figured everyone was sick of hearing it since we're all going through the same thing, but you're right that would have been helpful.

Currently & throughout withdrawal I have had:

- dizziness/vertigo

- bad headaches

- nausea

- flu type feeling

- severe skin issues (acne, flushing, urticaria, histamine issues)

- dramatic weight loss

- hormone disturbances including really bad hair loss/thinning

- heart issues (palps & fast heart rate, needed heart medication for it)

- pretty much bed ridden from all of these things

- the mental symptoms aren't too bad with me compared to many suffering. I have the expected anxiety and panic and crying a lot/depression, but consider myself to cope pretty well in that area, I'm just sick of feeling so physically unwell

I really appreciate the encouragement and it's good to hear how everyone else has experienced it. I guess month 5 is still fairly early on in the process.

I'm so sorry to hear this, I ended up at ER about 3 times during taper. But hearing how great you're doing in month 8 is so great, I'm so happy for you

I'm in month 3 now. Most sx are still bad or a bit worse than before. I'm wondering if they are really worse or if I'm just exhausted from the daily torment. Hang in there. It seems that 3-7 are bad and that others see improvement by month 8.

Hang in there!

Nope!

Not unusual. The process is not linear. Mine wasn't anyway. Around month 16, it became more linear. I felt better at month 2 compared to months 9 and 10.

It's not linear whatsoever.

Now I'm all healed, and that's linear! Keep going! Head up and armor on!

Hi there,

I can totally relate to how you have been feeling.  Today I am 6 months off  :D and it has been a tough month. I have been a bit better the last couple of days so hoping things may be turning. Depression not as bad and sleeping better, my worst symptoms are muscle tension and pain mainly neck shoulders and head but also my hands where I feel I have no strength; I find walking in the fresh air helps. Reactions to stress are really bad and crying is usually the result which, I believe to be a good thing as you are releasing emotion.

What makes this process so horrible is the time; I never expected to be still feeling not myself after this long and of course no one understands unless they have been through or going through. I am in the UK and have used The Bristol Tranquilizer Project and CITA helplines regularly, especially this last couple of months. They are incredibly supportive and have reassured me so many times. If you can I would suggest you use them.

I am similar in that I took diazepam at the most 6 mg for about 2 years and gradually cut it down, at the time thinking I would have no problems as I had taken it some years before, however only a few months but had no problem stopping it.

Just stay strong and believe that you will emerge from this a more resilient, better person who will appreciate life and the beauty of the world in such a better way. It is very hard I know  :(

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm in month 3-4 and am in the mother of all waves. It's a huge wave. It's good to know that these seems to be a common thing.

Sending healing thoughts to all of you.
