Hi there,

After quite a rapid 28 day medically supervised benzodiazepine detox I have been free of benzos for 3 months but am suffering from very intense withdrawals (at least I hope so or something is seriously wrong with me...)

I was taking a large quantity of various benzos (including 'legal' versions bought online) daily for around one year. When I first checked in to detox they started me on 80mg of diazepam a day (4x20mg) which was actually a reduction from what I was taking. After 28 days I had been brought down to 0mg a day. Looking back I think this may have been an overly rapid taper but this is what the doctors decided to do.

Since then it has been a living hell. The last 3 months feel like an entire year and what is worse there is little specific support. Hopefully posting on here and reading the experiences of others can help.

Thank you

Hi, Chris000.

Welcome to benzobuddies!

Congratulations on successfully coming off of benzos. Really sorry you're suffering. Yes, 28 days is too fast. Many of our members have gone through detox and are healing. You will, too.  :)

A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  It’s great for learning about these meds and for taper plans. Ashton recommends reducing between 5 - 10% every 10/14 days.

You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards.

In addition to the Ashton Manual, here are some other resources:

Post-withdrawal Recovery Support

Cold Turkey, Detox & Rapid Withdrawal

Hello Chris000,

I am sorry you have been through such a difficult thing. Our stories are somewhat similar, except I went cold turkey off a large dose of Klonapin. I, too, went into a detox.

Withdrawal from a benzo is quite unlike anything else. The symptoms can be both physical (involving any part of the body) and mental. Nothing prepared me for what I went through.

The good news is that we heal from this. It can take some time, but you are healing right this minute. Every minute that you are not taking a benzo, you are healing.

I think you will find a lot of support and information on this forum. I know I have - it was my lifeline for a long time.

Here is a link to one of our many areas that you might find helpful:

Also, please take some time to create a Signature, as it helps our members be more helpful to you. Welcome to BenzoBuddies, and let us know how we can help you further!
