Can anyone tell me if 2.5mg diazepam is considered a high dosage? Did a cold turkey from there about 4 weeks ago after doing a pretty quick taper from 20mg. Feeling pretty crappy but don't want to go back on.

Thanks

No, it's not a high dose.  Some of us would consider it a low dose, some a medium dose, but that depends on how much we were on, I think.  At my highest, I was on 4-5 mgs of Xanax a day, which is about the equivalent of 40-50 mgs of diazepam!

No, 2.5 mg is a low dose. You might not be feeling well because of the rapid taper from a much higher dose. As unpleasant as your symptoms are they are only temporary and will pass. You should create a signature  showing your dates of use to get the best feedback.

I agree with Megan.  To me, this is a low dose of Valium.  However, when doing a rapid taper from a high dose, (when you joined in mid Sept, you mentioned 40mgs of Valium?), the jumping dose does not mean a lot as far as necessarily cushioning the blow of being benzo free, IMO, because the body does not have time to stabilize between dose reductions when rapid tapering.

So, the starting dose matters much more than the jumping dose to me, when talking about a rapid taper.  And also, just how rapid of a taper may make a difference too.

Thanks Megan918!

Started on diazepam appx 1 year ago. Prescribed "up to" 40 mg daily by the doc but never took that much. 20 mg daily max, 10mg in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon. After a while I got tired of always feeling foggy all the time so I quit the stuff about 7-8 weeks ago, big mistake. Hadn't found this forum yet or knew anything about taper / withdrawal. Wish the doc had at least mentioned the issue when prescribing the meds.

Anyway, went back on 10mg (5mg am & 5mg pm) for about a week, then dropped to 2.5mg am & 2.5mg pm for a week then stopped again after 2.5mg in the am only for a week. I have been off all meds for about 4 weeks.

Don't want to go back but its getting tough. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't even considering it. Trying to tough it out.

Thanks again.

You did a fast taper, and some withdrawal symptoms are to be expected.  IMO, if they aren't really severe, I'd stay off.  Going on and off benzos multiple times has its own set of difficulties, mainly kindling, where each successive withdrawal becomes harder than the last.  For an idea of what severe symptoms are like, see my story, link below....

Thanks to all who responded. I will check out your story Megan, hopefully not too scary! I am sure I'll be ok but it's frightening to me as I read some of these posts. Sorry to come off as being so weak.

Also, is this the place to continue this kind of discussion? I am new to the forum and am not quite sure this is where I should be.
