So I've been on k-pins for over 5 years now.  I'm up to taking 2mg/day.  Whole pill at night, hardly ever any during the day.  I really don't know if that's a lot?

Lately I've wanted to slowly get off them.  I'm afraid what they may be doing to me. I feel diluted, and unmotivated.

I'm here to see what I can do about it

Hello garylazereyes ,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!

You certainly have come to the right place to get information about withdrawal from klonopin.  You have the right idea about tapering, slow is the way to go.

You are asking whether you are taking a lot of klonopin.  It is a very strong drug and while 2mg seems like just a little, actually .5mg of klonopin is approximately equal to 10mg of valium.

Most of us felt the way you do on benzos,  detached from the world under a haze of medication.  I can personally speak from experience that being benzo free and healed is wonderful.

I would suggest you read the Ashton Manual, an excellent resource about these drugs and how to withdraw.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  I'll give you a link to it as well as a link to the General Taper Plans for further information.  With a proper taper you can help to minimize withdrawal effects.  It is recommended to taper 5-10% every 10-14 days.

Please do ask questions, we're here to help and support you.

Hello garylazereyes,

I too would like to welcome you to the forum  :)

Congratulations on the decision to begin tapering!

I also experienced that "detached from the world" feeling during the latter years of my benzo use and my cognition and motivation were badly affected, this can be a side effect benzos when taken long term.

I'm sure that with a slow, careful taper plan you can be klonopin free and you'll then get your old self back. I've been benzo free for 17 months and my mind feels so much sharper so I hope this helps to encourage you.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you success with the taper

Debbie
