Trying to taper off Lorazepam

[ma...]

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been taking this stuff for a couple of years straight.  Was up to 2mg/day now at 1mg/day, usually at night to help with sleep.  Occasionally

have to take 1/2 pill during day.

Over the past year I have also tapered off Seraquel(Nasty stuff), completely off now(4 months) but still not sleeping well.

I'm looking forward to getting involved in this forum and getting/giving some support.

  Thanks,

  Mark

Hi, markd. Welcome to benzobuddies. Glad you found us.  :)

I'm glad you decided to taper off of Lorazepam. I was on various benzos for 29 years and was finally able to come off them in June. Now I'm coming off of Seroquel, and I know the problem with insomnia all too well.

A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  It’s great for learning about these meds and for taper plans. Ashton recommends reducing between 5 - 10% every 10/14 days.

You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards.

In addition to the Ashton Manual, here are some other resources:

For tapering advice, post here: General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms you may have, post here: Withdrawal Support

Please add a signature (history of medication/doses etc). It will help members give you relevant advice. This link will show you how to Create a signature

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello markd,

Welcome to the form from me too  :)

Congratulations on tapering off the Seroquel and on your Lorazepam taper so far!

I would try to make a point of taking the same dosage of Ativan every day/night if I was you as inconsistent dosing or taking a little extra when needed will confuse your brain and can contribute to interdose withdrawal symptoms (between dose withdrawals) Keeping the blood benzo level as smooth as possible will make for a smoother taper.

Here is a link to The Insomnia Board here, there are some good tips and recommendations for dealing with sleep problems :

I'm glad you found us and I wish you success with the taper.
