How does your anxiety affect your body?

For me my anxiety makes my legs feel heavy and "weird". Theyre always "on edge". This feeling is worse when lying down. Distraction often helps. My arms feel heavy as well. Buts it's so much more than a heavy feeling...it's a dread type of feel. It's hard to explain. Sometimes my feet get warm and tingly and my head constantly rings. My ears often burn. I wake up in dread even though I don't feel as though I'm thinking about anything. My calves feel tight even though their not.

I had serious problems with muscle tension - lots of really sore muscles. There are relaxation videos on youtube that offer guided meditation and progressive muscle relaxation - that helped me.

Hi fossaah,

You in the fifth month after a very fast taper. In the world of benzo withdrawal, five months isn't that long. (Sorry to say...)

You're distracting yourself, which is great. But I know - distracting doesn't take away all those horrible feelings. Everything you mention is classic withdrawal. They are symptoms. They do not mean you have lost your mind, or have some disease.

You are healing, whether you are aware of it or not. As long as you're not taking a benzo, you are healing. That is the body's response to trauma: healing. With benzos, it can take a while before you start to KNOW you are healing. But it is happening, and there will come a day when you suddenly realize that this symptom, or that symptom, is no longer present.

You're doing great. Getting off a benzo is not easy for some of us, but you did it.

Thanks for the response everyone.  Every once in a while I take an ambien to sleep. Could that hinder recovery?

Yes, it could
