Switching Brand Klonopin to generic

[Je...]

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Since brand K isn't in production at this time, I may have to switch to generic. They say they are going to start production in October sometime.  My question is my pharmacy says they carry Actavis. Does anybody take that brand or know how good it is?

Thanks, Benzogirl.  I think I might just get Teva if I don't hear anything about Actavis.  I don't want the dreaded Mylan either.

Good luck to you.

Has Roche discontinued Klonopin?

HI, I take Actavis Diazepam for my taper. Im doing very well with this generic. When I was on Roche Klonopin, I transferred over to Teva generic when they were having production issues a few yrs ago. I did fine, never went back to brand. Saved a ton of money too. Good luck to you!  :) Oh, I researched Actavis and read all good things b4 I decided to take it for my taper

I have Teva in the .50 mg. And the Mylan in the 1 mg. I think the Mylan are stronger. Not sure though.

I would like to know what's wrong with Mylan also?

What's wrong with Mylan exactly?

The FDA investigated both Mylan and Teva from their companies in India. They found that both companies are putting less of the actual drug in and more inert ingredients to save money. Same holds true for Neurontin. But the FDA has no jurisdiction over non US companies so all they can do is warn the US pharmas that invented them. Bets

Not really true.

When I started on Remeron (mirtazipine), my local pharmacy was supplying me the Apotex brand, from a Canadian plant.  When my pharmacy no longer provided Apotex, I tried to findit from other pharmacies.  I even contacted my insurance company to try to help me find a source for Apotex brand mirtazipine.

I learned that the FDA had found irregularities in Apotex's Canadian operation, and halted the importation of all pharmaceuticals from the Canadian facility.

FDA may not be able to actually control foreign mfgr's, but they do have the authority to control importation of drugs from foreign mfgrs.

Hi Braban,

No Roche has not discontinued the brand Klonopin. They bought Genentech which was making Klonopin and Valium. They had a problem with the Klonopin. I spoke to a pharmacist from Genentech who says that they expect to start production of brand K the last week in October. There number is 800 821-8590, and they have an automated message about Klonopin.

I have enough brand until about the 17th of this month and then have to switch to Teva.

Hi,

Thanks for all of your responses.

Ingrid, I think I'm going to try Activis. That's what my pharmacy carried, anyway, but I've heard so many different stories about different brands.

Thanks for your help.

Hiya BenzoGirl.  Do you have a link to more info about this.  Google doesn't give me much info.

Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi,

Ingrid, I took your advice on Actavis and it has worked out fine. I've been on brand K for 5 years. Two years before my detox and three making mistakes and trying to get off. Anyway, thank you, the Actavis works just as well.

I have now found that a micro taper works best for me. To me milk is the easiest, has the least w/d symptoms and you can go as fast or as slow as your body lets you. I was in horrible pain, back pain, besides the morning craziness and lots of other symptoms, and as soon as I switched to milk it went away.

Thanks for your help.

Jenny

I get it but that's not what The New York Times said in their investigation about the matter.

Hi Brabran:

If you subscribe to The New York Times, than you can search for their article about the matter online for free. If not, you can't access older stories. You may want to Google Roche-Klonopin and find something there.
