I am having a hard time with coming off xanax, I experimented with it for around 7 months taking anywhere from .5 mg a day up to 4 mg per day. I went to a doctor and got a script for .5mg twice a day. I started tapering immediately, I took .5 per day for 3 weeks, then .25 for two weeks followed by .125 for a week and then stopped all together. I haven't had any benzos for 15 days. I tried tapering many times only to find myself relapsing after heavy drinking, it turned out impossible for me to be able to taper while consuming alcohol. I've been off xanax and alcohol for 15 days total, just looking for some insight as to when I will finally be feeling back to normal. I have good days and bad days, morning are getting better, my anxiety comes and goes and I'll have racing thoughts, paranoid thinking, dizzy spells, hard time concentrating at work, I don't like being in public, even if it's something small like getting lunch or going to get groceries. I'll get minor headaches and brain zaps which are the worst part of this whole thing.

Hi Tejas001 :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am sorry you are feeling so badly. Stopping benzodiazepines too rapidly can cause some pretty bad symptoms. You may be suffering from the "kindling" effect from all of your multiple tapering attempts. This is where each subsequent withdrawal is harder than the previous attempts.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms. Reading this will give you a MUCH better understanding of why you feel the way you do.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Members discuss their symptoms on the Post withdrawal recovery support.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again Welcome!  :smitten:
