Going crazy with anxiety

[da...]

Recommended Posts

I have been a benzo user off and on for 10 years.

I've had rage and hostility. Upon reflection, I looked

Benzos and was scared. I went to a doctor and sold

Them on Ashton manual procedure. I started at 15mg x

Twice daily of Valium and have tapered to 4mg x twice

Daily and I think I am losing my mind! 100% anxiety

24 7. I hurt.

Hi dashnapp and welcome.

I'm sorry to hear your taper's getting difficult.  Tapers do have a tendency to get touchier as the dose gets lower.  Though 5 to 10% is what the Ashton manual recommends in general, that rate can be too fast if someone's central nervous system is especially sensitized.  Also, if you've been on and off for many years it can make withdrawal more difficult.

It might be best to start posting here:  Valium/Diazepam Support Group.  This group is knowledgeable and active and should be able to help you with your tapering issues.

Please include your benzodiazepine information in your posts.  To make that easier by adding it to each post automatically, you can go up to Profile, choose Forum Profile, write the information in the text box and click Change Profile.

Take care,

Challis

i started down benzo road about 10 years ago when a doctor prescribed zanax for anxiety from withdrawal from alcoholism

up to 5mgs per day for a while then. i can't remember the different amounts i was taking but i do remember it was no more than 5mg

recently, upon discover of Ashton manual began 15mg twice daily of valium, tapered 2mgs off every 2 weeks and am now at 4mg twice daily. if it gets any worse i will lose functionality completely. this is kicking my ass

Usually when someone starts to become unable to function, the taper has been too fast.  Sometimes not, sometimes no matter how slow a person goes this can kick his butt.

Looking at the equivalency charts, .5mg Xanax is equal to 10mg of Valium, so the 30mg of Valium you crossed over to is far short of the 100mg of Valium that would equal 5mg of Xanax.

Maybe you can write a rough timeline of your crossover and taper.
