This is Lyrica, a drug used for nerve pain and also for seizures. Ive never heard of it being used for benzo w/d, but that doesn't mean much. I know several people personally who take it for pain and like it. I tried it a few years back, and it did not help pain and made me feel wired. But everyone is different. I would suggest you look it up, read about it and decide if you think its safe for you to try. Keep in mind that everyone reacts differently to all drugs. Lyrica has been known to have a withdrawal syndrome but nothing as bad as a benzo.

I take gabapentin, Lyricas relative. I think it might reduce the anxiety to some degree, but it can also have some not so nice side effects and is hard to get off for many people. Google Lyrica reviews, Lyrica withdraw and see what u can find.

While it is approved as a pain med in the US, research has shown it to be very effective anxiolytic.  It has been approved for anxiety for several years in Europe, and is often prescribed off-label in the US.

The research on dependency and WD seems to be somewhat uncertain.

There is a wd, PK. And be prepared that it might make you worse. I hate to say that but it's true. I tried gabapentin, which is very similar to pregabalin and it make me hypomanic/WIRED. Note: I'm not bipolar. It did go away the next day but it was a horrible experience.

Absolutely there is wd for most people. Anything that changes brain chemistry is going to have some. Id really think about it if i were you. I wish i never took the gabapentin in my life.

Go to youtube and do a lyrica withdrawl search there.

it only starts to make a difference at around the 1 week mark says my doc.. and he said it also doesnt cause any type of chemical addiction..

People take Gabapentin & Lyrica PRN all the time. It won't take a week to feel anything, plus you're in benzo w/d so you're hyper sensitive anyways. It's your call dude, if you feel like it could help, only you can make that decision.

Wait theres wd for this too? How is it possible if it doesnt cause physical dependence?

As I said, if you search online, you will find conflicting reports about dependency and withdrawal.

FWIW, I took it for 90 days (as a pain med) and quit CT with no problems.  But YMMV.

It certainly causes a dependence to some degree (been on it almost 2 years) and many report the w/d feels like a mix of opiate and benzo. Some can quit c/t and not feel a thing while others go through hell, some can't even miss one dose without feeling w/d symptoms while I can  skip a day maybe two and be fine...although my idea of fine might be different than someone who feels good more days that not.

It is prescribed  off label for anxiety and it does  help with anxiety both during the taper and afterwards but doesn't seem to help with the physical pain  of benzo w/d much  at all.  I came off temazepam in 2 months and other the 10mg of diazepam I used the last week I basically dropped off at 50% of my original dose and so far  I have little to no anxiety.

I was prescribed lyrics (pregabalin) The help with my crippling anxiety and depression following a CT from 60mgs of Vallium.

At the time it helped in the sense that my mood lifted (or rather I just stopped feeling anything and went into a numb sort of calm) it also helped me to sleep somewhat.

However, the good effects were short lived. I became used to it very quickly and began gaining lots of weight. It also made me swell up quite a bit. The anxiety returned but not the depression.

I am currently in the middle of tapering from it and for me, it horrid. NOT as bad a benzo withdrawal but similar in lots of ways. Anxiety, breathlessness, sensitivity to light etc.

i can't wait to be off of all this crap and be medication free finally!

i wish you luck with your decision.

Hi PK

It would seem that pregabalin, like most drugs, helps some patients and not others. Some report feeling worse. Others experience difficulty withdrawing.

You really need to decide if you want to take the risk of possibly feeling worse. How long does it take to get to optimum dose (do you start low and work up?) - how long would you have to stay on it to give it a fair trial? Is it really just 10 days?

If you decide to try it and it helps, be prepared to have problems coming off it. Go into this with your eyes wide open.

Don't take what the doctor says at face value. We have all made that mistake and look where it got us.  It is not that doctors are lying, they just tend to gloss over potential problems or they may not know that there are certain problems.

I don't want to be negative but don't see this as the magic pill to cure your current difficulties.

Hugs

It started working for me right away but mine was prescribed for nerve pain in my back. I was started on 50mg 3x a day and after a year I moved up to 100mg 3x a day. 100mg gave me side effects during the day  that didn't get at the lower dose so I would often take my entire dose at night with the benzo.

I was already taking temazepam but only a couple times a week to avoid dependence but  once I got put on lyrica I led myself into a false sense of security because I already knew that it was said to be very helpful in benzo w/d. Twice a week became 3-4 and then eventually daily. Between the lyrica and the crazy amount of temazepam I have built up from only taking half of what I was prescribed I figured I could taper super slow at my own pace, I didn't take into consideration of tolerance withdrawal.

Yeah I don't trust doctors at all I read too many horror stories of people getting cut off c/t or having their dose cut way down which was one of the reasons why I started stockpiling mine. Good thing to because as far as the doctor knew I was taking 30mg every day and when I told him I wanted to come off he dropped me down to 15mg overnight.  :idiot:

I took neurontin for 2 weeks and had withdrawl. It was similar to short term benzo withdrawl. I was physically undercomfortable and depressed. I wouldn't do it!
