Hi macca6001

Welcome to Benzobuddies,  did you stop cold turkey first, and then go back on them?  Benzodiazepines should be tapered slow, it only takes a few weeks for the body to become dependant on these drugs

I would suggest you read the Ashton Manual, it is an excellent resource for information about these medications and gives a lot of information about withdrawal.  Here is a link to the manual: Ashton Manual

A slow taper can help minimize withdrawal effects. If you have taken them a few months or more then It is generally recommended to taper  5-10% every 10-14 days.  This is a guideline and it is ok to adjust this schedule for your comfort.

We have a great community here of knowledgeable and friendly people who understand this process.  They will be willing to share their experience with you.

Here are some helpful links:

welcome  :) the majority of people can get off benzodiazepines with little or no problems. Did you reinstate taking them after trying to withdraw from them previously ?

  • 2 weeks later...
hi, i stopped after i came home from south africa, there i took around 50 2 mg lorazapam , these i took randomly more somedays, none somedays over a period of around 2 and a half months, when i stopped a day later i got rebound anxiety and couldnt sleep for 3 nights. that passed after 5 days. then i went to the doctors and for around a month i used tiny ammounts of around maybe mostly 0.5 if that. when i stopped got w)ds , could nt sleep. waves of agonising pain, jolting when dropping off to sleep, waves of anxiety, muscles twitching, shaking. Just wondering what kind of timeframe i could be looking at ? i know everone is different but would it be true to say my usage would be considered short term? much appreciate anyones help. owen

Hi Macca,

The majority of short-term users have little to no difficulty getting of benzos.  That is not to say you will not experience some discomfort such as derealization, anxiety, and sleeplessness.

Your usage is most definitely considered short-term.  If you think the symptoms you have had are agonizing,  just imagine the damage of long-term use (5+ years)!  I'm going to ask you to read the horror stories in order to keep you from taking rescue doses.

Hang in there!  It gets better!

its far away from the truth.

I have no idea how the long term users here have got through what they have got through. Prob about the bravest set of people around I think. Not sure how I became dependant after such a small amount. But that's the case. Not sure if there's any people here with my amount of use and examples of recovery. Also wondering if Anyone had any coping strategies for pain . Also I can't sleep for shit. Any tips ?
