I want to hear from people about psychaitric inpatient

I was curious about people's actual experiences with psychiatric inpatient, if anyone feels comfortable sharing.  I'm not considering it at this moment, but I have in the recent-ish past, and I'm starting to feel that depression come on again tonight.  Not in imminent danger, but curious about what other people actually experienced at such institutions, just in case I find myself considering it again.  I really wouldn't know what to expect.  I'm mostly against the idea, because I'm afraid of being stuck there in awful conditions and probably thrown off my benzo cold turkey.

My experience wasn't bad at all.  I got my medications straight (I'm not anti med) and was treated well by the staff.  The only problem around here is, if you don't have insurance you will be moved to the state facility when a bed becomes available.  I've heard horror stories about the state facility. 

Since you aren't in immediate danger can you go in and see your Dr.?

hi Tor, about 25 years ago i went through my one and only deep depressive episode. i admitted myself to a local hospital's separate psychiatric facility for 2 weeks. it was quite modern (not a 'snakepit') and the staff was very friendly and helpful. it was there that i began my journey with benzos. But back then, benzos were not the hot topic they are today. Tor, these places are NOT 'lock-down' facilities....bjunk

Thanks guys. Felinelady, I do have insurance luckily, but I don't have a good doctor yet.
