Hey all, it's Hairbear lookin for some knowledge and support for my withdrawal.  I have been prescribed Xanax (Alprazolam) for over 22 years now. I started on a low dose "As Needed" and got up to 8 Mg a day. I am stabilized at 5 Mg a day and ready to re-start my taper, Just having problems with finances and getting the world to stop long enough to let me off for awhile!

I am so happy you found us. It is great to hear that you have already started your taper. You have been on a very large dose so in my opinion a careful taper is required. At that high of a dose I am hoping you are under a care of a doctor.

 

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms,.

I'm sorry you're hurting.  I've been a high dose klonopin user for what seems like forever (though not nearly as long as you) and I almost don't remember much about my life prior to that anymore.  Being now on this low dose, life feels too overwhelming at times.  But not all the time, so I guess there's hope.  When times get hectic, it's hard to keep up with this, not sedated. I wonder how many benzo users felt like life was ridiculously complicated, ridiculous, and sad.  I hope you find a way through your troubles.

I was on benzos for 30 years, and got off cold turkey....NOT something I would ever suggest. Have you started your taper yet? How are you feeling so far?

Please let us know how you are doing, and how we can help you get through this. You can do it. Yes, you can....its not easy, but you will end up feeling very good about yourself, and feel better in general.
