Cold Turkey

[fi...]

Recommended Posts

Hospitalized 4 months ago for suicide attempt, I was taken off .5 mg daily dose of Xanax that I had been on for over 4 years and put on lithium. (I used alcohol with Xanax but have been sober 4 months)

Don't have exact time frame, but a few weeks after leaving hospital I could not leave the house-anxiety and achy all over. Then I felt better for about 6 weeks-ate out, went to movies, attended regular A A meetings.

All of a sudden it's back and worse-doctors can find nothing physical-could it be some weird time delayed wavelike withdrawal? What can I do for myself? The doctors are ignorant of the subject. Please help.

Hi filterfoot

Welcome to Benzobuddies.  I am so sorry you experienced a cold turkey. The withdrawal symptoms are temporary but it does take some time for the CNS to recover. I will put a link to the Ashton manual here for you: Professor Ashtons Manual It is an authoritative resource on benzodiazepines and withdrawals

Well done on being 4 months sober, I know how hard that is!! You should be so proud of yourself.  Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards.  We have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

We do have a dedicated board for those people who have done a cold turkey or rapid withdrawal.  You can connect with others there who are in the same situation as you are: Cold Turkey Detox & Rapid Withdrawal Board

You might also like to post here: Post withdrawal recovery support board

It does get better, just hang in for now, check out the success board Success Stories

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to Create a signature

Please let us know If you have any questions.

Welcome Aboard

Yes, it could be withdrawal.

Keep taking care of yourself. What are you doing already? I would distract myself. If you can get a guided meditation DVD or mp3 that helped me, it might help you. Bellaruth Naparstek I think is her name, of a good one. She talks about going through a tunnel of burned shards emerging into a place of peace. Something about it was a good analogy for my illness and other problems. Hope this helps. Please keep posting and let us know how you're doing. Congrats on 4 mos out. I am sorry you are going through this. It will get better.
