I have been on klonopin for 2 years.. I take 0.5mg in morning, 0.25 mg afternoon, 0.25mg night. I decided I want to stop after a friend sent me an article about benzos inducing alzheimer's. I have already been experiencing brain fog, concentration problems (I had a small stupid accident in the car couple weeks ago..), losing things, just chaotic thinking also for some reason.

Besides these effects I have not had any other serious side effects, but I want to get off anyways.. I hope I do not encounter some of the horrible side effects I've read about. I want to do a slow taper off. I sometimes take 10mg of ambien too, but onyl when i really cannot fall asleep and have important things to do next day.

any klonopin tapering advice is appreciated.

thanks

Hello Bryce, and welcome to the forum!  We're glad you found us.  We generally recommend a taper rate of about 5-10% every 10-14 days, though Individual rates vary.  Here are a few links you'll find useful:

Withdrawal Support (during your taper).

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!

Hello bryce,

Welcome to the form from me too  :)

Congratulations on the decision to begin tapering, you'll be given plenty of support and tapering assistance here.

I can empathise with you with relation to the forgetfulness because when I first joined Benzobuddies I was convinced I had a form of dementia. I now realise this was long term benzo related and my memory is much better since I've been benzo free, yours will be too.

As Megan said a slow taper is the way to go to ensure that should you experience withdrawal effects, they will kept to a minimum. Please try not to worry about the taper in advance. Sone people can withdraw from benzos with little or no problems, you might be one of them but as long as you take it nice and slowly even if you do have some symptoms they shoukd remain very manageable.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you success with the taper.

Debbie
