Hi fellow travellers.

I was introduced to valium by my GP when I was 23.

When I asked doc whether Vs are addictive "No" came the answer.

Yet here I am ...43 years later.

Hello We can do it

Welcome to benzobuddies, I wish your story was unique unfortunately its very common but it does get better. Have you started to taper off yet?  A good resource about benzodiazepines is the Ashton Manual. Here is a link to the manual: Professor Ashtons Manual  it is a great resource  for learning about these meds and for taper plans. The rule of thumb is to reduce between 5/10% every 10/14 days.

Feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, you'll find a great community of people who are here to support and encourage you. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

For tapering advice General Taper Plans

For support with any symptoms you may have post here: Withdrawal Support

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to Create a signature

Please let us know If you have any questions.

Welcome Aboard

Hello We can do it,

Welcome to the forum from me too  :)

We have many members here in their 60s who have taken benzos long term, I am one of them, I was also given my benzo to assist with sleep when I as in my 30s and  I was still taking the med over 30 years later. However, I'm pleased to tell you that I've been benzo free for 16 months after a slow taper so I hope this helps to encourage you.

Are you thinking about tapering off the valium? if so, as Magrita said, you'll be given plenty of support and tapering assistance here.

Please let us know how we can further help you.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you well.

Debbie

Hi We can do it

I really hope you are thinking about tapering off your dose of valium. Unfortunately valium, like all benzos, is highly addictive, which of course you have found out. However, there is hope. We have lots of long term benzo users who are either tapering, or have already tapered off, and are doing well.

The Ashton Method is a good place to start, but it is by no means the only way. You do have a lot of different options. The type of taper you do will depend on the dose that you are on, so if you could post a signature giving us some details that would be great. There are lots of people who can help with a tapering plan.

Hello WeCanDoIt

Welcome to BB. I was on nitrazepam for 40 years for myoclonic epilepsy. Now 17 months off and getting there.

Hope you will take the plunge too.

A slow taper is best.
