Safe antibiotic to take for diverticulitis?

I'm pretty sure this is what I have, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and wondering if anyone here has had this and what antibiotic they used.  Normally quinolones are prescribed for this, I've had it post withdrawal and was prescribed cipro but I do not want to take that now.

I feel your pain having had a recent bout of this condition.  I also wanted to avoid the quinolones, so I asked my doctor to give me Amoxicillin.  It took forever for this antibiotic to kill the infection, but it eventually worked.  I knew I could tolerate Amoxicillin, so this is what I asked for.  In hindsight, I should have allowed my doctor to prescribe something stronger, just not a quinolone.  But the infection produced a wave as it was so I wanted to be ultra careful.

I now tell doctors Im allergic to one of the quinolones (Levaquin). I do not explain anything about benzos or withdrawal. Nor is this really a lie, because I was a victim of "floxing."

You could just say that for various reasons, you do not wish to take a quinolone drug. You don't owe a doctor any more explanation, although they probably will ask. Stick to your guns on this. There are other antibiotics. The quinolones as often used if the bacteria they are worried about doesn't need oxygen to live...for example, an infection inside the gums, or inside the intestines. They work well for those things, but there are others they can use.
