eight years on clonazepam

I just finished tapering off of clonazepam after taking it for 8 years.  I am less than 1 week clonazepam free.  Just looking for possible support and an idea of how certain withdrawal symptoms last.

Hi ninjaur  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Congrats on being benzodiazepine free. The introduction board is a starting point. If you go the support below you will be able to read about others going through the same thing and even post your own question. Also the Ashton Manual below talks about withdrawal symptoms.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms,.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Members discuss their symptoms on the Post withdrawal recovery support.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Hello ninjaur,

Welcome to the forum from me too  :)

Congratulations on being benzo free after 8 years of use, that's a wonderful achievement and you should feel proud of yourself.

We cant tell you exactly how long it will take for a full recovery to take place becase benzo withdrawal is a very unique experience and we're all so different with relation to healing experiences but we can tell you that it will get better the further out you go on the journey. At one week benzo free you may well be in the acute phase of withdrawal when symptoms are at their strongest, the strong symptoms will ease but it can take a little while for the central nervous system to fully heal.

I will give you a link to a post created by one of the members here, Parker which I think you'll find helpful. This post explains, in layman's terms, exactly what is involved with the healing process after long term benzo use, I hope it helps to give you a better understanding. Here is a link to "What is happening in your brain"

I'm glad you found us and I wish you a speedy recovery.
