Recovery from 26 year klonopin dependence

[Mo...]

Recommended Posts

In March 2014 I was hospitalized after a benzo overdose. I was prescribed klonopin 26 years ago for Panic Disorder. While in the hospital I was taken abruptly off within five days. At this point I was taking 6mg a day of Lunesta, Klonopin and Ativan. Since withdrawal I have rediscovered joy and a reimurgence of my formally bubbly personality to the delight of my family and friends.  At this point  I am struggling with frequent panic attacks, especially at night, hot flashes, tinnitus, muscle spasms, memory problems and fear of going crazy. I am having more good days than bad and seeing improvement.

Hi Momof3boys, and welcome to the forum!  We're glad you found us.  I too went through a hospital detox off Xanax, five years ago now.  As you probably know by now, that sort of hospital detox was designed for alcohol and hard drugs, not for benzos.  However, it's great that you are feeling healed in some ways, and this bodes well for the future.  At six months off a detox/cold turkey, the symptoms you're still experiencing are not unusual.  But they are temporary, and you will heal in time....

Here are a few links you'll find useful:

Post-Withdrawal Recovery Support.

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.  She describes and explains withdrawal symptoms, and there is also a section with withdrawal/taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!
