Recovering alcoholic, Benzo (XANAX) user and abuser for 17years. I have been clean and sober for a 15 months. Except for very short periods of time, I feel horrible, my mind is ruined and have no emotions except fear, dread and unhappiness. AA has promised me a better life, despite following all suggestions, I am still a wreck. I have yet to find a way to deal with panic attacks and GAD. I recently had some dental work performed and was prescribed Percocet. I am taking as prescribed and have never felt more at ease. I am considering going to a psych. talking about these issues and requesting a long lasting benzo. I am here doing research.

Hello jrockclimber,

Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

I'm going to be totally straight up with you. 17 years is a very long time to utilize Xanax and recovery from this can take a very long time.  It isn't unusual in the least, when it comes to benzo recovery, for a person to still feel unwell at 16 months.  We see many folks who are in the same boat as you are. These drugs can often take an inordinate amount of time for some folks to bounce back from.  Your recovery might be just around the corner.  I'd hang tight, never go back on a benzo and allow my body to recover from using this med.  It will recover and you've invested a great deal of time in getting over the use of the drug.  Please stay the course and congrats on your sobriety.
