Colonoscopy

[ma...]

Recommended Posts

I'm having a last minute colonoscopy tomorrow.  I'm having to use the canned broths today for the all clear liquid diet, and the gelatin's have either sugar or the sugar substitutes. hidden msg. I'm feeling really weak after having some chicken broth and some jello with the sugar substitutes.  Then the prep I'm supposed to mix with Gator Aid also has either the sugar or the substitutes.  I guess there is no way around all this sugar and additives. I was just wondering is all the sugar better for us than the artificial sweetners.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is an option for you but do you live by a store like Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or Fresh Market? I often find chicken broth that is labeled without MSG at those kinds of places. Also check the "natural food" section of your local grocery store if possible. And while I'm not a fan of sugar by any means, I personally would choose that over artificial sweeteners.

Thank you Courtney.  Unfortunately I do not live near those stores.  I did find some broth that says no added msg, but of course it still has it in it.

Mama, I've found success with a natural sugar substitute called Stevia. It is a plant leaf that has a sweet taste to it. They remove the sweet extract from this leaf and use it as a common sugar substitute in a lot of things now. Vitamin Water Zero uses it as their sweetener, and it works well for me. I often drink the lemonade and the xxx acai berry ones. Maybe that can help?

At home and for baking, I use either nonfat dry milk or another natural sweetener called xylitol as my sugar substitutes. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol, and does not affect the blood sugar. It often passes through like fiber in digestion.

Your colonoscopy will go smoothly, and I believe they'll confirm for you your perfect health :) Take care, and please let us know how you are :)

Thanks Mrs.

The colonoscopy went well.  They found two polyps that they removed and I'm awaiting the biopsy.  The doctor said they didn't look cancer.  Now he wants me to have the test where you swallow the capsule to try to tell where my bleeding is coming from.  I haven't made a decision as to weather I will have that done.  :-\

Hope you are doing well. :)

Haha, I've done the capsule test :) It was fun & funky! A lil gross, ahem, collecting the capsule afterwards, but other than that it was one of the easiest tests I've done!

I am doing better and better each day. I'm fully persuaded of my healing, and insistent upon being patient with myself.

Glad to hear it went well for you! I miss ya, Mama :)

Mrs,

What did you eat when you were on the liquid diet?  All that msg in the broths has done a number on me the past two days.  If I do the capsule test I will have to do it all over again.

Did you just have to do the liquid diet for the capsule test or the liquid diet plus drink a prep?

Miss you too!  It is good to hear you are well.

I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure it was only a soft food diet (i.e. applesauce, mashed potato no skins, liquids, popsicles, etc) and only for like 8-12 hours prior to it. And no, I don't think I needed to do a prep for it. It was about 2 1/4 years ago, so I can't say for sure though :P I remember for the colonoscopy, I did lots of lime jello and lime popsicles, but outside of that I don't remember. I'm sure I did similarly for the photo pill though :)
