Lorazepam suspension

[pe...]

Recommended Posts

I had a suspension made up for me and started to take it today. 0.5mg - after half an hour it sent me into a weird place of disorientation etc. I'm due to take the next dose in an hour but im so spun out still i don't know what to do.

The idea obviously was to come off the 2mg in a controlled manor. What do people reckon i do...go back to the tablets?

Best

Pete

Hi Pete:

Some people report some discomfort when switchign from ativan pills to suspension. This could be due to a small inaccuracy in the concentration of the suspension, an allergy to one of the other ingredients in the suspension, inacurracy in dosing [drawing up the correct volume], or just a FEAR of moving from pills to liquid.

On the other hand, many people report a smooth transition. I had no problem when I moved from lorazepam pills to suspension. The liquid realyl helped me dial in my exact dose when it came to cutting very small amounts as needed. Please give the suspension a chance. I think you will be fine. Dosing by volume [liquid] as opposed to mass [dry cutting] is much more reproducible and precise. Head on over to the ativan thread on BB, lots of talk on the liquid stuff:

Whats the difference between suspension and solution... i asked for the solution but i got the suspension which I'm not happy about...

Also in the UK there is a price issue between the two.

In a suspension, the drug substance (lorazepam) is not truly in solution, but rather, the particles are suspended in the solvent usually through the use of a carrier. In my suspension, the carrier was the inert methylcellulose. The drawback to the suspension is that one has to shake it before dosing to ensure uniform distribution of drug in the mixture. Not the case with the solution. More importantly, what is the concentration of your suspension? There is also likely a difference in shelf life/expiration date between the two but this is not usually prohibitive for us. Is your disappointment, cost-related?

Firslty i was told a price for the solution which i agreed on and they give me the suspension which they say is the same and charge me twice the price even thought i made it clear i wanted solution and i had a script for it.  I believed the solution to be  better as in more accurate and more cost effective. The suspension is 1mg/5ml  in 150ml. My disappointment is being dicked around again by incompetent pharmacists at a cost of £200.

It costs twice as much as the solution.

Hi Pete,

I live in Canada and can't believe the cost you are paying, Holy Crap!!

I'm dry tapering Ativan from 4 mg down to 2.0625 now, doing quite well with it except for 2 bad, bad waves.

I am considering when the dose gets lower to changing to liquid too. I read so many diverse things I'm just as lost as you and the cog fog doesn't help either. It's like my brain is on vacation. Hope this is temporary. Lol

Good luck with your taper, geez can't even think of the other name for it.
